Ebbetts Pass Fire District Celebrates 50 Years |

Arnold, CA...Many in the community came and celebrated Ebbetts Pass Fire Department’s 50th anniversary on August 1st. After a 9am flag raising and brief ceremony, tours & meet and greets continued till noon. Station One was buffed, polished and ready to show off for the community. In their 50 years EPFD had grown into a model department for rural emergency services. One area they are very proud of is cardiac event survival rates. Even as a rural department they rank higher than many urban departments.

Bear Valley to Host 7th Annual Derby and Country Faire |

Bear Valley, CA: Enjoy spectacular Bear Valley in scenic Alpine County on September 5th for the Seventh Annual Bear Valley Derby and Country Faire. This event will feature the ever popular non-motorized car races powered only by gravity and the navigation skills of the driver. These fun-filled and spectator friendly races pits two cars in each heat racing side by side to add to the excitement. The Derby is open to aspiring racers of all ages. Racing starts at 10:00am. Cars are provided and all one needs to participate is to register online prior or on the day of and have a passion to feel the wind in their ears.

Arnold, CA...We had the pleasure to visit SNAC's Arnold store to talk to Shawn Seale aboutthe latest water toys to take to the our area high country lakes. Most of which have plenty of water to play in. After starting out at the store we took a field trip to White Pines Lake where Shawn & Jill demoed a great two person kayak that will even fit inside a Prius.

Arnold, CA...DOG FOUND IN ARNOLD.FRIDAY – AUGUST 7, 2015. RUNNING LOOSE IN BIG TREES MARKET PARKING LOT. There is a phone # on collar but no answer, no voice mail. IF THIS IS YOUR DOG, PLEASE CALL ANNE at 795-4538. Dog will be taken to county shelter at noon on Saturday, August 8th if not picked up by then.

Arnold, CA...Stop by Calaveras Humane Society's Thrift Store Cat Adoption Center in Arnold, located in Meadowmont Center next to Big Trees Market, open Thurs. through Sat., 10 am–5 pm. Come in and meet Remi & Ruger. These youngsters are not quite ready for adoption yet, but they can be reserved! Lots of other kitties will also be available to meet you! We will also have a whole lotta lovin' kitties available at our Angels Camp Adoption Center, located in Angels Town Center (240 S. Main St./Hwy 49), open Thurs/Fri, 10 am–5 pm, and Saturday, 11 am–5pm. Come in and meet the kitties!

Hunter Safety Class In Arnold August 16th |

Arnold, CA...A Hunter Safety Class is being offered August 16, 23, and 30th between noon and 5 pm at Ebbetts Pass Fire Station #1, 1027 Blagen Road in Arnold. The fee is $10 and students must attend all 3 days to pass. Please contact Mark Oswald (768-3136) or Al Courtwright for more information. You do not have to register ahead of time. Just show up on the first day. Bring snacks, pencil and paper.

Dorrington, CA...Paul Joseph Sorensen, 55 of Calaveras County was raised in Livermore, CA by his loving mother Margaret Sorensen from Iowa and late father Donald Sorensen 2nd generation from Livermore, CA. Paul attended Saint Michael’s Grade School and Livermore High School. He served as an altar boy at Saint Michael’s Church. Paul was an excellent student in all areas of academics and played basketball for both schools.
