Arnold, CA...Stop by Calaveras Humane Society's Thrift Store Adoption Center in Arnold, located in Meadowmont Center next to Big Trees Market (Phone 209-795-GIVE). We'll be open THURS.–SAT., 10-5. We will have 9 kittens and one adult cat available to meet you this week, so it's a big week for kittens! If you are closer to Angels Camp, make sure you check out our new Angels Camp Thrift Store Adoption Center, located in Angels Towne Center (240 S. Main St./Hwy 49), also open THURS.–SAT., 10-5. There will be cats and kittens available at both locations!

Fishing Report Highway 4 Corridor June 24, 2013 |

Arnold, CA... Fishing on the Highway 4 corridor has been excellent with all of the recent trout plants. Trout plants for this week are White Pines Lake, Angels Creek, Beaver Creek, The North Fork of the Stanislaus, Union Res., Mosquito Lakes, and The East and West Fork of The Carson River. Be sure to reserve your favorite camp site as the 4th Of July is next week. Make sure to obtain a fire permit before entering our campgrounds and please be careful as it has been a dry season and there is a high FIRE DANGER. You can contact our Forestry Dept. at 209-795-1381 regarding camping information.

| Angels Camp, CA...At his request, no services will be held for George David Pollock, 85, who died June 14, 2013 at his residence, Foothill Village, Angels Camp. He lived here in Calaveras County since building his mountain home in Avery in 1959 and moved here in 1969 from San Francisco. He worked as a window washer on some of the tallest buildings in the city. He worked on several projects such as the construction of the Spicers Dam and Melones Dam. George served in the US Navy and crewed on the USS Henderson as a gunners mate. He was honorably discharged in 1947 as Seaman 2nd Class and received a commendation from President Harry S Truman... |

Copperopolis, CA...In the olden days, a farmer growing corn would save a portion of the harvest as seed corn to plant next year. He didn’t have to do this; he could eat the seed corn. But, if he ate the seed corn, there would be no crop next year and the family would suffer.

Angels Camp, CA...Soroptimist International of Calaveras County installed their 2013-2014 Board of Directors on June 5 at Camp’s Restaurant at Greenhorn Creek in Angels Camp. Terry Hughes, District II Director for the Sierra Pacific Region of Soroptimist International of the Americas, was the installing officer. Also attending were Pat Jones, Sierra Pacific Region governor, and Barbara Giambastini, past Sierra Pacific Region governor and current parliamentarian....
