Ebbetts Pass Veteran's Memorial Dedication May 26 in Murphys

Murphys, CA ... The Ebbetts Pass Veteran’s Memorial District (EPVMD) in partnership with John & Gail Kautz & Family of Ironstone Vineyard invite you to the "Dedication of New Expansion to Veteran’s Memorial & Unveiling of 7’ Bronze Statue" event on Monday, May 26, 2014 from 10 am to 2 pm. The event will be at the EPVMD Creekside Memorial, Algiers Street, Murphys, CA The band strikes up at 10 am. with by the dedication ceremony followed with lunch and fellowship.

Lunch is free for all Veterans $10 Donation for Guests

A Memorable Day for Americans to Celebrate Freedom
Musical Entertainment, Flags, Guest Speakers, WWII Era Movies

Robert “Bob” L. Nethery 1929 - 2014

Murphys, CA...Robert L. Nethery, “Bob” to friends and family and “Bobbie” to his grandchildren, died in his home in Murphys on April 8, 2014 after a two year battle with esophageal cancer. He was 84. Bob was born the sixth of eight children to Harry & Bernice Nethery on September 20, 1929 in Shullsburg, WI.  He spent his teen years growing up in Rockford, IL graduating from the local high school in 1947. A member of the Illinois National Guard, in 1952 Bob was activated during the Korean War and spent time at Camp Cook in Lompoc, CA before being deployed to France.  His time in California inspired him to make his home in the Bay Area after his honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1953...

Avery, CA...Reginald ‘'Reg” Francis Cyr, “The Viking”, age 82, was born December 31, 1931 in Old Town, Maine, passed away April 17, 2014 at his residence in Avery, California. He was veteran of the U.S. Navy who served during the Korean War, and retired corporate manager for Safeway Stores. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Sierra Men’s Club, L.S.M, A.R.S.E, and a die hard Republican....

CCWD Fly In Acres Assessment District Construction To Begin

San Andreas, CA...On April 24, 2013 the Board of Directors of the Calaveras County Water District adopted a resolution forming the Fly In Acres Assessment District. Plans and specifications were prepared and put out to bid. On October 14, 2013 the Board approved a construction agreement with Mozingo Construction. The project will take approximately 4 months to complete. The project involves replacing the existing aging water distribution infrastructure and installation of hydrants and meters. Survey work staking out the project began last week. Mozingo is planning on mobilizing this week starting April 20, 2014. The actual construction is scheduled to begin next week starting April 27, 2014...

San Andreas, CA...Sixteen superior court judges from throughout California have endorsed Judge Hugh K. Swift in his June 3 election campaign to retain his position in the Calaveras County Superior Court. Following an extensive evaluation by the State Bar Association’s Judicial Nominees Evaluation Commission, Swift was appointed last December to succeed the Hon. Douglas V. Mewhinney who was retiring. He now faces two challengers in the primary election....

Some highlights: Copperopolis, Male came to knock at his door was talking weird things came into his house and got chips spread them all over his kitchen table then went to a neighbors house and got into his house was wondering around in his house. San Andreas, Occurred at Turner Park on Treat Ave. , San Andreas. There are approximately 12 people in a tent in the back of Turner park. San Andreas, Hunters parked on side of road BBQing drinking.

At higher elevations...a slight chance of rain and snow showers in the evening...then a chance of rain and snow showers after midnight. Colder. Lows 27 to 42 higher elevations... 37 to 49 lower elevations. Snow level 7500 feet. Prevailing south winds 5 to 15 mph with gusts to around 35 mph. Over ridges... Prevailing southwest winds 30 to 45 mph increasing to 35 to 55 mph with gusts to around 75 mph after midnight. Tuesday At lower elevations...a chance of rain showers in the morning...then a chance of rain showers with possible snow showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. At higher elevations...rain and snow showers likely in the morning...then snow showers likely with possible showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Cooler. Highs 33 to 48 higher elevations...43 to 55 lower elevations. Snow accumulation up to 2 inches higher elevations. Snow level 5500 feet. Hwy 4 Ebbetts Pass Opening Day Videos From Sandi Pearce

Lake Alpine, CA...The Sierra Sentry's Sandi Pearce provided some great video footage of the opening of the Ebbetts Pass ofr the summer. Our local Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway is now open for business and visits. One of the great things about living and visiting here is that as the flowers start to fade in the foothills spring is just starting at higher elevations. Spring has officially sprung...
