Bear Valley, CA...Now in its 48th year, the Bear Valley Music Festival begins on Friday, July 22 and runs through Sunday, August 7 with a total 15 concerts including a special free family matinee on Saturday, July 30. The festival showcases a wide selection of artists and genres including rock, classical, bluegrass and jazz. A mere 3.5-hour drive from San Francisco, Bear Valley is known primarily as a ski resort. Now in its third year under the artistic leadership of internationally recognized conductor Michael Morgan, the music festival has put Bear Valley and the Highway 4 corridor on the map as a summer destination as well drawing an audience of thousands.

Behind Bret Harte’s beautiful facilities and sports venues that many colleges would be proud to have that driving force has been and is Tony Tyrrell. From walking the halls in the state capital in search of grants and contributions to getting bond measures on ballots and endless fundraising he has done it all. It has never been about Tony but always about the school, it’s students and the community as a whole.

VUSD Earns Gold Ribbon Honors For Albert Michelson & Hazel Fischer Elementary Schools |

Sacramento, CA...State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced that 772 elementary schools are being honored under the Gold Ribbon Schools Awards Program. Here locally Vallecito Unified earned top honors for two of their three schools and Amador County placed two on the list. "These schools shine as bright beacons for others, putting forth an exemplary effort to ensure that every student is ready for 21st century college and careers," Torlakson said. "California teachers are developing an education model for the nation, training the students of today to be the problem-solvers, inventors, and pioneers of tomorrow."
