Arnold, CA...Below are the forecasts this week for the West Slope and Mother Lode regions. Detailed forecast for West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada. Today Mostly cloudy. A chance of snow in the morning, then snow likely in the afternoon. Highs 22 to 37 higher elevations... 34 to 44 lower elevations. Snow accumulation up to 2 inches. Prevailing south winds up to 15 mph...except southwest 10 to 25 mph over ridges.

Bear Valley, CA...On Saturday, March 9th, cross country skiers from near and far will assemble in the Bear Valley Meadow for the 46th running of the Bjornloppet Ski Race and Festival. With a 10:30 am start, The “Bjornloppet”, meaning Bear Race in Norwegian, is enjoyed by young and old alike. There are divisions for all ages and two distances are offered, 20 kilometers (two laps) and 10 kilometers in Saturday’s freestyle (striding or ski skating) race.

Arnold, CA...You will need to chain up or engage the 4wd this morning to make it to the slopes. On Hwy 88 they have it open through the Carson Spur area and controls are in effect above Dew Drop Inn. Hwy 26 is still closed for repairs. Bear Valley devotees will need traction aids above Arnold on Hwy 4. Dodge Ridge skiers & riders will need to chains or 4wd above Twain Harte. Hwy 120 has even joined the chain gang this morning with controls in effect at Buck Meadows....

Murphys, CA...Even though tax filing season is well under way, there's still time to make a regular IRA contribution for 2018. You have until your tax return due date (not including extensions) to contribute up to $5,500 for 2018 ($6,500 if you were age 50 or older on December 31, 2018). For most taxpayers, the contribution deadline for 2018 is April 15, 2019 (April 17 for taxpayers who live in Maine or Massachusetts). You can contribute to a traditional IRA, a Roth IRA, or both, as long as your total contributions don't exceed the annual limit (or, if less, 100% of your earned income). You may also be able to contribute to an IRA for your spouse for 2018, even if your spouse didn't have any 2018 income.

Their music moves seamlessly from English to Italian, Spanish to French, Portuguese to Hawaiian and back again. Michela Macfarlane spent ten years steeped exclusively in baroque music. To expand her singing world she moved to the realms of jazz, pop, and Latin sounds. Michela is still true to her operatic roots and has grown as a performer. Back in the early 90’s, when Shawn was selling out of the back of his truck as “The Eddy Mart”, the most important items to have on hand were life jackets, river shorts, sandals and river knives. Oh yes, and a few things the rafting customers would want, t-shirts, hats, sunscreen, etc. It became obvious that The Eddy Mart was getting too big to operate out of a garage when the whitewater kayaks came. It was time for a storefront. That’s when providence arrived on the scene.
