Brummund Tree To Be Replaced and Rededicated April 18 At White Pines Park. |
Posted by: thepinetree on 04/17/2014 03:49 PM
|
Arnold, CA....(Update....Murphys Nursery has graciously donated a replacement tree and a re dedication ceremony will be held tomorrow afternoon. The public is invited to arrive around 2pm and some Sacramento TV Stations are expected to arrive about 2:30pm) Our earlier story....White Pines Park Committee's Ginny Kafka was cleaning and checking on the restrooms last weekend and and noticed something very wrong. The Dogwood tree that had been planted in honor of fallen Marine Lance Cpl. Gavin R. Brummund had been torn out and thrown on the roof. Everytime she has cleaned the restrooms she has watered the young tree and watched it grow. Lance Cpl. Gavin R. Brummund was killed on June 10th, 2010 by a remotely detonated roadside bomb in Afghanistan. All of Calaveras County mourned his loss and for anyone who was a resident or in the community during the week after his death will remember like it was yesterday the thousands who lined the roads to honor his family and him as they returned to the county....
Pictured above is the uprooted tree on the roof of the restroom building at the park, L Cpl. Gavin Brummund, Son of Debbie Morris and Gregg Brummund, who was raised in Arnold CA and graduated from Bret Harte High School in 2006. The above image was taken by AP photographer David Guttenfelder of Gavin during a firefight with the Taliban in the battle for Marja in Afghanistan. This photo made numerous appearances in the national press. Below that is a photo of Gavin that was displayed at his service at Frogtown. |

Murphys, CA … Over 200 people gathered at the Native Son’s Hall in Murphys, CA last night to hear from the three candidates running for the seat on the Calaveras County Board of Supervisor representing District Three. Marita Callaway, the incumbent, Mike Borean and Mike Oliveira, the challengers, made opening statements, answered several prepared questions from Moderator Paul Stein and then took questions from the audience. The candidates addressed a range of topics on issues they will face as members of the Board of Supervisors including the transient occupancy tax, water rights, commercial and residential development, business regulations, law enforcement, library funding and continuing education. On several occasions each candidate expressed their opinions on the disposition of the use of a casual shooting range at Candy Rock Quarry in the Stanislaus National Forest....
