The Calaveras Partnership Supervisor Candidates Night

Angels Camp, CA...On Monday night the "Calaveras Partnership" held a Candidates's Night at the Bret Harte Theatre. It was billed as an evening of political education featureing Board of Supervisors Candidates for Districts 3 & 5. On fun segment that separated this event format wise from some of the others was the "Lightning Round" where the candidates could only answer Yes or No to questions. The Calaveras Partnership is comprised of The Arc of Amador & Calaveras, Carpenter's Union, Community Action Project Calaveras Planning Coalition, Foothill Conservancy, Habitat for Humanity, Operating Engineers Local 3, SEIU Local 1021, Slow Food Calaveras, Calaveras Grown and Calaveras Unified Educators Association. The event was hosted by Joel Metzger & moderated by Bob Enyeart...

Calaveras Arts Council Announces Summer Filled Fun

The Calaveras Arts Council announces lots of fun this summer both in their new Gallery Store and in the local parks throughout the county. The free Wednesday evening summer series, Music in the Parks, begins on June 11 in Copperopolis and ends ten weeks later in Murphys on August 13. To help pay for these performances, the arts council is launching its membership drive to sign up new members and to re-sign existing members. Individual membership is $35 and Family membership is $50. Membership is from July 1 to June 30. Membership gives you that special feeling for supporting the arts as well as discounts at event ticket sales and Gallery Store purchases. The big August 2 fundraiser in Sheep Ranch, Cajun Fete Dinner and Dance Party, tickets for members is $65/each; for non-members they are $75/each. Enjoy the savings by becoming a member...

New Melones Fishing Report ~ from Glory Hole Sports

Angels Camp, CA...New Melones Lake is currently holding 860,083 acre-feet of water. The lake level dropped five feet this week and is currently at 922 ft. above sea level and 163 ft. from full. The water is slightly stained with some areas forming mud lines. The average water temperature is 68-72 degrees and rising daily. The boat launch ramps on the Glory Hole side have been moved back out to the end of the point which makes for a short walk.

Kyloe and her friend caught some trout and some kokanee on pink spinners.

Altaville, CA ...The Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump were held concurrently on Saturday, May 10 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Altaville Melones Fire District station in Angels Camp. The Junior Miss Calaveras Queen and her court are as follows: QUEEN: Brianna Navas, 12, of Murphys, 1st Princess: Alara Bowsher, 14 of West Point, 2nd Princess: Claudia Loomis, 13 of Altaville. Complete Government Center Frog Jump Results

San Andreas, CA...We had already posted that Marcia Thompson & "Morph" had taken the top stop but we thought we would pass along some random video clips and over 140 photos of the event. Jockeying our local mascots seems easy enough until you try it. On Tuesday it seemed to take a woman's coaxing to get our green friends to leap. Some of the biggest guys in the crowd from the public works department barely got them to budge. There was one petite female whom shall remain nameless who not only scared her frog into movement but scared many in attendance as well. One has to assume from the harmless looking packaging on the outside that her bark must be worse than her bite.....

Using numbers like BMI, or the body mass index alone, only takes into account a person’s height and weight. It’s possible to have low body fat and high muscle mass, and therefore a higher weight, which could categorize someone as overweight or obese when that’s really not the case. It’s better to look at the five elements and think about both health and fitness, rather than simply rely on your BMI or the number on your scale....
