Angels Camp, CA...A mere few days before the frogs jump competitively in Angels Camp, there will be lots of humans swimming, biking, and running competitively in the same fabled town, at the 21st Annual Angels Camp Triathlon. Internationally known for its Frog Jumping Contest, made famous by author Mark Twain, historic Angels Camp, Calif., is also the home of this longtime, very popular triathlon, which will take place on Sunday, May 12, 2013 (Mothers’ Day), at 8:30 a.m., at the beautiful New Melones Reservoir. Produced by On Your Mark Events, this fast and scenic triathlon course features a 1,000-yard swim (Warm water, high 60s to mid 70s. Wet suits are allowed, but not really needed.); a 16-mile bike (rolling, scenic loop course); and a 4-mile run (rolling jeep trail). The Angels Camp Triathlon will conclude with the awards ceremony, raffle, and a huge barbecue, with beer! (Those jumping frogs WISH they had it this good!)

Angels Camp Police Seeking Help with Tanning Salon Burglary

Angels Camp, CA...On 05/05/2013 at approximately 7:30 PM, the Angels Camp Police Department responded to 52 North Main Street Suite H, Sunsual Tanning Salon, for a reported burglary. The rear door of the business had been pried open and several items were taken including cash, a computer, clothing, tanning lotions, and spray tanning equipment. A total dollar amount of the loss has not been provided yet, however it is estimated to be over a thousand dollars.

Angels Camp, CA....The 2013 Calaveras County Relay for Life is in the books. Over the 24 hour period, Relayers walked over 1,500 miles! (They kept track of this by having Relayers pick up a paperclip after each lap walked and counting the papers clips!) As of close of Relay on Sunday, April 28th at 9:00 a.m. – over $53,000 has been raised!

San Andreas –With this year’s dry conditions the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU) transitioned into fire season on May 1st, much earlier than normal. CAL FIRE’s Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit incorporates the State Responsibility Areas (SRA) in Tuolumne County, Calaveras County, Eastern Stanislaus County and Eastern San Joaquin County. The 2013 fire season also comes with new leadership. On May 1, 2013, Josh White was appointed to the TCU Unit Chief position. Former TCU Unit Chief, Brian Kirk, retired in March 2013. Chief White began his career in 1988 as a Firefighter I. Since then he has worked a variety of assignments including State and County fire stations, Conservation Camps, Fire Prevention, Civil Cost Recovery, Law Enforcement, Safety, Research and Development as well as served on various working groups and cadres. Chief White has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice...
