Murphys, CA.....The Frogarazzi were out in force again Saturday Morning. They were at the S.N.A.C Painted Frog of Calaveras County unveiling. The festivities were held at their New General Store in downtown Murphys. The artist of this frog was Bob Carabas and he did a wonderful job capturing the essence of what S.N.A.C and The Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center wanted to portray in this project. CSERC is the Non-Profit will be the beneficiary of the October Frog Auction for this frog. If you would like to visit this wonderful expression of Frogliness it is located in the Breezeway next to The General Store...

San Andreas, CA...The inaugural Summer Health Career Camp kicked off this last week at Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital in San Andreas. A good sized group participated in 4 days of comprehensive, immersive job shadowing, training and hands on instruction for local Juniors & Seniors interested in a career in Health Care. The week finished off with a CPR Certification Class and student/parent luncheon. Angel Auction Raises Thousands of Dollars for Two Respected Non-Profits on Saturday Eve ~By Hanna Alldrin |

Angels Camp, CA.... Last night the Angel Auction raised thousands of dollars to help fund the new the new digital mammography machine for Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital Foundation and also for the Calaveras Arts Council. The red and white wine reception started at 5:30 yesterday evening at Camps Restaurant at Greenhorn Creek in Angels Camp. “Mediterranean Mystique” was the theme that has been selected for this year’s Angel Auction, a benefit for two respected non-profits, the Calaveras Arts Council and Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation’s campaign to fund new digital mammography machine. Last year the theme was a tropical oasis, making the "Mediterranean Mystique" a fantastic theme change. San Andreas, CA...Smoke from the fires burning in Northern California is affecting parts of Calaveras County. This is resulting in poor air quality that can be harmful to residents, especially persons who are more sensitive to the effects of smoke. The Calaveras County Public Health Department and Air Pollution Control District are advising residents to take precautions to prevent exposure to wildfire smoke. All persons who can see or smell smoke, should avoid outdoor activities...

Registered Nurse Commended for Saving efforts on Airplane~By Larry Cornish |

San Andreas, CA....At a special ceremony on June 18, 2008, David Lei, a Registered Nurse at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit was recognized for his part in saving the life of a passenger on Southwest flight 3775 on June 10, 2008. Mr. Lei, who has extensive certification and experience in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, went into action when a “CODE BLUE” was called from the back of the airplane on its way to Burbank. With the help of other clinical persons on board, they were able to stabilize the passenger until the plane made an emergency landing and the passenger was transported to a nearby hospital....

Hospital Has Opening Ceremony for New Infusion Rooms |

San Andreas, CA....At a morning celebration, Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas “cut the ribbon” to officially open new Infusion Rooms to be used for blood transfusions, antibiotic infusions and future chemo therapy programs. The Infusion Rooms were made possible through the generous support of The Sequoia Woods Men’s Club in memory of Bill Abbey and John Trench. The Men’s Club was represented at the celebration by Harold Hood and John Vasquez and a plaque honoring Mr. Abbey and Mr. Trench was placed in the corridor. The rooms are outfitted with comfortable lounge chairs, flat-screen televisions with wireless headsets and DVRs to help the pass the time during the sometimes lengthy procedures....

Team Will, a non-profit Sacramento-based group cyclists, whose mission it is to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer research, just embarked on its second 10-day “Ride To Reach The Day” from S.F. to D.C. with full medic and SAG support. ThePineTree Pedaler, Brett Loring who did the ’06 Ride from S.F. to Virginia, rode 115 miles of Shift 2 on Monday from the rally at the Capitol to Truckee in Team Will’s June 16-26 ride.....

White Pines, CA...You know you are a kayaker when you can't go over a bridge without looking for water under it. ~Unknown Author. The eleventh annual Kayak Festival took the water this weekend at White Pines Lake in Arnold. SNAC hosted a fun filled day on the water with kayak rides, kayak demonstrations, food, and a raffle. Over 65 people signed up for the event and wanted to feel the water beneath them while riding some of the high quality kayaks in our area. SNAC had their boats ready and waiting for all of the eager paddlers staring at 10am........
