Pertussis [Whooping Cough] Reaches Epidemic Levels in California |

| Calaveras County – Pertussis, a disease of the lungs and throat caused by bacteria, has reached epidemic levels in California. Almost 1500 cases have been reported to date in California, a 5 fold increase from last year. The cases include 6 infant deaths, all less than 2 months of age. Three cases have been reported in Calaveras County at this time. In 2009, Calaveras had the highest pertussis case rate in the state... |

San Andreas, CA....The California Department of Public Health has announced the first confirmed human cases of West Nile virus in two women from Stanislaus County. West Nile virus is present in all California counties. The Calaveras County Public Health Department recommends that all persons take preventive steps to avoid mosquito bites and prevent mosquito breeding...
