Drug Cuts Breast Cancer Cases by More Than 50 per cent in High Risk Women

London, UK....Taking the breast cancer drug anastrozole for five years reduced the chances of post-menopausal women at high risk of breast cancer developing the disease by 53 per cent compared with women who took a placebo, according to a study published in the Lancet today.

Santa’s Express Dinner Dance a Success

Frogtown, CA...The second Annual Santa’s Express Dinner Dance raised approximately $26,000 for Santa’s Express this year thanks to the efforts of Gina Galloway and Rayleane Dias-Gentry. Each year they have picked two seniors from Bret Harte High School who want use this event as their senior project and work with them on the event. The two that worked with Gina and Rayleane this year are Lacey Loomis and Paxton Fassbender. “These girls worked so hard, they helped in the planning process, they sold tickets, got auction items and helped decorate for the event,” said Gina Galloway, “they were amazing.” Over 550 tickets were sold, the dinner was catered by Up County Catering, the auctioneer was Ryan Sullivan, who kept the auction so lively and wonderful music from the band, Plan B, who played through the night...

The Golden Health Award was established in 2013 to recognize and award selected health care organizations and individuals who have made a positive impact to the health and wellness of the Calaveras County community. Health care professionals selected for nomination are chosen from Community Health Based 501 (c)(3 Organizations, Public Health Programs, and Behavioral Health Programs that operate in Calaveras County. Agencies or Organizations that operate in multiple counties are eligible for nomination, however funds received as an award or grant must be used in Calaveras County to promote the health and wellness of the community...

Black Oak Casino Donates to Santa’s Express & The Resource Connection

San Andreas, CA....Santa’s Express and The Resource Connection Food Bank would like to take a moment to acknowledge a donation to Santa’s Express from Black Oak Casino and the Calaveras Community Foundation in the amount of $250.00 to go towards the Santa’s Express Event. “We are grateful for the donation from Black Oak Casino through the Calaveras Community Foundation,” said Jeannie Hayward, Food Bank Director. “Santa’s Express is in full swing and we are expecting to serve between 1200 and 1300 families in Calaveras County and every penny counts! The Santa’s Express Distribution is on December 20th at three sites in Calaveras County – The Resource Connection Food Bank in San Andreas, Blue Mountain Coalition for Youth and Families in West Point and Faith Lutheran Church/Murphys Senior Center parking lot in Murphys. We distribute a whole holiday food basket, which will include turkeys or hams, fresh produce and lots of food from our community Santa’s Express Food Drive. Murphys, CA...The 7th Annual Klassen's Turkey Trot filled Murphys Community Park early on Thanksgiving morning. There was music, great t-shirts, donations for the food bank and a great way to get the holiday of on the right foot. The event keeps growing every year and most people seemed to put the crowd in the 600 range for this informal event....
