Bear Valley Winter Getaway Package Up for Grabs |

CALAVERAS COUNTY October 27, 2011 The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance is pleased to report that the silent and live auctions at the 2011 Grape Stomp brought in approximately $18,000 which will go back into the community in the form of donations to community organizations and four high school scholarships. During the silent auction, however, the paper showing all the bids on the Bear Valley Winter Getaway package was removed before the auction ended. As a result CWA is seeking the top bidders on the package or asking for new bidders to contact the office by Nov. 4...

Murphys, CA...The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance will host its monthly Wines of the World, Thursday, November 10 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Murphys Historic Hotel, 457 Main St., Murphys. Steven Gomez, a former wine educator for a Napa Valley vineyard and local freelancer, will pour a number of local Merlots and compare them to Napa Valley Merlot. Merlot is a standout of the "Noble grapes" of the Bordeaux region, with a history in wines that dates back centuries. Taste and explore as you learn about wines...

Calaveras County, CA....The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance will host its monthly Wines of the World Thursday, September 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Murphys Historic Hotel, 457 Main St., Murphys. Hotel Owner Dorian Faught will be presenting double gold and award-winning wines from the 2011 California State Fair Wine Judging. "We'lll be pouring Milliaire's double gold Zinfandel and silver Clarksburg Gewurztraminer, Twisted Oak's double gold Mourvedre, Carignon, Graciano, Black Sheep Winery's gold-medal Amador Zinfandel, Michael David's gold-medal Zinfandel as well as a number of other medal-winning wines," reported Faught.....

Gary and Carol Zucca hosted a wonderful dinner for their wine club members and other guests Saturday night at their tasting room in Murphys. Pourings and pairings focused on their 2009 Barbera, with foods of regional origin similar to that of this fine Mediterranean wine, now of course produced here in the Gold Country. Greek and Italian fare included cheese and olive appetizers with Italian breads from Sierra Hills Market, caprese skewers with heirloom baby tomatoes and basil from the garden of Lisa Logan, wine club and sales associate for Zucca Mountain...
