Valley Springs, CA....The next meeting of the Greater Valley Springs Advisory Group will feature a question and answer session with Tim McSorley, Executive Director of the Calaveras Council of Governments (COG). COG was recently awarded a Community-Based Transportation Planning (CBTP) Grant from Caltrans in the amount of $204,648 to fund “Rural Smart Growth: A Community-Based Plan for Valley Springs.” Funding should be received in early 2009. The project will produce a community planning document....

Sonora, CA....Sonora Regional Medical Center today announced that Radiation Oncology at Sonora Regional Cancer Center is now open and patients are receiving treatment. The State of California, Department of Health Services approved licensing for the program on November 3rd. Arnold, CA....Motor on up to the newest old-fashioned diner in town! My son had heard there was a new place in town to secure a good old-fashioned ice cream cone. That was enough excuse to venture out on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We struck it rich at Susie’s! Murphys Pool Projects Springboards Ahead and Students Honored at Meeting |

Murphys, CA...The Angels-Murphys Rotary Club is spearheading efforts to make some needed renovations at the Murphys Community Pool. Their efforts took a huge stroke forward when the Native Daughters of the Golden West decided to contribute $6,500 towards their cause. This and additional funds from the Rotary Club will make significant improvements to the facility. Some of the improvements include a new roof for the restrooms, barbque pit renovations and more. The check was presented at the Weekly Rotary Meeting at Ironstone. The Native Daughters have been very active in their support of our local institutions. Not too long ago they donated over $16,000 for the Bret Harte Greenhouse project. Our community owes a debt...
