Bear Valley, CA...This weekend Bear Valley Mountain is opening the slopes for the 2008-09 Season! This weekend, the resort will offer lift tickets for just $39 ($20 off regular) for visitors 13 and older, $16 for children 6 to 12 and free for kids 5 and under. Conditions permitting, the resort will open three lifts including Kuma, Supercub and Panda, providing access to four intermediate and beginner trails. The resort will also offer intermediate and beginner terrain park features. Early season conditions currently exist....

San Andreas, CA...At yesterday's Calaveras County Board of Supervisor's meeting, San Joaquin County Building industry representatives and Burnell Wealth Management's Principal, Cory Burnell, were on hand on hand to speak on behalf of the Trinitas project. They exhorted the county to let the project move forward for fiscal reasons. He spoke about the lawsuit imposed ban on non-native fish stocking and it's affect on the local economy. Arnold, CA...Hello fellow fisherpeople and outdoor sportsmen. Catching a fish of a lifetime or having your children or grand children enjoy the pleasures of catching their first fish may be only a memory of days gone by. This letter comes to you as a result of a recent court ruling passed down just last week. I am sorry this is not a fishing report, instead a report of things to come that will affect hundreds, if not thousands of people including all of the businesses that are dependent on our fisheries up and down our Highway 4 corridor. The ruling is result of a lawsuit filed in 2006 against the Department Of Fish and Game. The lawsuit was filed by The Pacific Rivers Council and the Center for Biological Diversity, represented by Stanford Law students. The DFG was sued over fish stocking programs it has engaged in for more than 100 years, claiming that no Environmental Impact Report (EIR) had been completed for the programs. The result of the case was a court order requiring DFG to complete an EIR. DFG is engaged in the years-long and multimillion dollar EIR process, now scheduled to be completed in...

Cambridge, MA...The Business Cycle Dating Committee of the National Bureau of Economic Research met by conference call on Friday, November 28. The committee maintains a chronology of the beginning and ending dates (months and quarters) of U.S. recessions. The committee determined that a peak in economic activity occurred in the U.S. economy in December 2007. The peak marks the end of the expansion that began in November 2001 and the beginning of a recession. The expansion lasted 73 months; the previous expansion of the 1990s lasted 120 months.... |

Angels Camp, CA...The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce has been one of the driving forces in pushing a real Economic Development Agenda for the county. From the Economic Summit in July, to the approval of an economic development element to the Calaveras County General Plan yesterday at the Board of Supervisor's meeting, the Chamber has had a large part in this. The Chamber and Executive Director Diane Gray has been out in front leading the charge to make sure the county enhances it's position as a place to do business.
