Murphys, Ca...The Calaveras Wine Alliance in partnership with the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Grand Tasting Wine event on Wednesday, May 17th to kick off the Calaveras County Fair and debut the newly improved wine pavilion located at the County Fairgrounds. The new event will highlight the winners of Calaveras Countys’ Best in Show, Double Gold and Gold Medal wines by offering tastings and delectable catered bites and appetizers provided by Lunch Lady Catering.

Bear Valley, CA...The Bear Valley Business Association has recently installed Tesla chargers at the BV Lodge. These are free to use for any Tesla driver, compliments of the BVBA. In addition, in conjunction with Skyline Resorts, BVBA embarked on wiring the entire Village for public free WiFi. This in now running in a limited capacity and should provide high speed broadband in all public areas of Bear Valley, including up at the ski area, by early summer.

Calaveras County, CA...More than 40 of Calaveras County’s most acclaimed winemakers, restaurateurs and plein air artists will converge at Ironstone Vineyards, 1894 Six Mile Road, Murphys, for the Tenth annual Taste of Calaveras from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 22nd. The event features wine tasting, gourmet samplings, live music by the Bob Eisenmann Jazz Trio, food and wine demonstrations, local artists painting along with artisans on site and a silent auction featuring Calaveras experiences and Calaveras products. Planned Water Outage By CCWD In Arnold, Monday April 3

Arnold, CA...The Calaveras County Water District is planning to interrupt water service for about 200 homes and 12 businesses in Arnold from 8 a.m. to noon Monday April 3. This water service outage is necessary to allow the District to perform a pipeline tie-in, which is part of the ongoing Reach 3A Transmission Pipeline Replacement Project.

Angels Camp, CA...We will be closing the shop on Thursday, March 30 and re-opening on Friday, April 7 for our closing sale. After much thought and with the full support of her family, Ginger will take this opportunity to visit her kids in Washington, Oregon, California & Idaho , her sister in Fresno and when she is home in Angels Camp she would love to continue teaching her love of all things quilting & sewing. The sudden & unexpected loss of Chuck has been devastating & she feels the only way to make any sense out of his loss will be to honor their dream of retirement & travel. With 6 kids, 13 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson and many friends to visit, she will have the freedom for extended visits & she will be pampered!

Cape Canaveral, FL...SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket delivered SES-10, a commercial communications satellite for SES, to a Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO). SES is a world-leading satellite operator, providing reliable and secure satellite communications solutions across the globe. SpaceX launched the SES-10 from historic Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The SES-10 mission marked a historic milestone on the road to full and rapid reusability as the world’s first reflight of an orbital class rocket. Falcon 9’s first stage for the SES-10 mission previously supported the successful CRS-8 mission in April 2016. Following stage separation, Falcon 9’s first stage landed on the “Of Course I Still Love You” droneship that was stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.

While shoppers and communities often welcome the opening of a major department store or a branch of a big-box chain, they are also the cause of some concern. Small local businesses face greater competition, yet those small businesses are an outsized engine of economic growth. Additionally, they are important distinguishing features in local communities. That's why today is Mom and Pop Business Owners Day. In 2012, there were nearly 28 million business firms in the U.S., but only 5.4 million of them had paid employees. In that group, over 2.7 million-- about half-- were enterprises having four or fewer employees. Almost 10 million of America's business enterprises are women-owned. Brown Jr., Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon today joined labor, business and local leaders to announce a landmark transportation investment to fix our roads, freeways and bridges in communities across California and put more dollars toward transit and safety. The $5 billion-a-year program will cost most drivers less than $10 a month and comes with strict new accountability provisions to ensure funds can only be spent on transportation.
