Their signature event, and one of California’s longest running attractions dating back to 1893, the weekend blends classic Americana events like Rodeo, Carnival and Demolition Derby with something unique to Calaveras County – a bullfrog jumping contest. From Mark Twain’s famous tale, “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” comes the annual competition that draws people from around the world and has become part of California Gold Country lore...
Sonora, CA...Tuolumne County Farm Bureau and Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority joined forces to host an event to bring local businesses together with local agricultural producers. “This goal is to get more local produce into our local marketplace,” Elena Linehan, Executive Director of the Farm Bureau, said. A dozen producers gathered this week to discuss their wares and how they can fulfill the needs for local business. The event was called Product to Buyers and used the “speed dating” approach rather than a trade show set up.

San Andreas, CA – Two Calaveras youths were honored by the White House, receiving the President’s Volunteer Service Award. The Calaveras High School students, Brianna Gill and Guillermo Hernandez, have been members of the Explorer program with the San Andreas office of the California Highway Patrol for the past 2 years. The award is based on the hours of volunteer service. Brianna received the Silver Award while Guillermo received the Bronze Award. Lieutenant Dewayne Lewis presented the awards to the Explorers during a training session at the CHP office. Congratulations Brianna and Guillermo.
