Washington, DC...Information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in November indicates that the labor market has continued to strengthen and that economic activity has been expanding at a moderate pace since mid-year. Job gains have been solid in recent months and the unemployment rate has declined. Household spending has been rising moderately but business fixed investment has remained soft. Inflation has increased since earlier this year but is still below the Committee's 2 percent longer-run objective, partly reflecting earlier declines in energy prices and in prices of non-energy imports. Market-based measures of inflation compensation have moved up considerably but still are low; most survey-based measures of longer-term inflation expectations are little changed, on balance, in recent months.

Angels Camp, CA...The Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians recently donated $10,000 to the Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF). Special thanks go to Rich Hoffman, CEO at Jackson Rancheria and Hotel. As a loyal supporter and business partner for several years, the Rancheria maintains a determined commitment to support the local community and non-profit organizations in Calaveras County. During those years, over $80,000 has been donated to the Foundation. Rancheria employees are also making individual donations to CCF via payroll deductions. The CCF’s grant program benefits from those donations.

Copperopolis, CA...Copperopolis Town Square will host the 31st Annual “First Taste of the Year” wine festival on Saturday, Jan. 14 from noon to 5 p.m. More than 35 wineries from across the Sierra Foothills will participate, representing the best of Calaveras, Amador and Tuolumne counties. Live jazz from the Gypsy Trio and Bob Eisenman Band will complement artisan foods and appetizers, including gourmet wood fired pizza, burgers, cheeses, French bread and treats. A wide selection of custom crafts, artwork, clothes, gifts, wines, foods and souvenirs will also be available from local merchants. Activities and games for kids are also part of the planned festivities, including a visit from Captain Encouragement who will lead Super Hero training sessions.
