Pet Owners Urged to be Aware of Canine Influenza Virus

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/26/2019 11:40 AM
Sutter Creek, CA – Amador County Animal Control and Amador County Public Health are conducting a joint investigation of a confirmed case of canine influenza virus in a local dog following multiple reports of respiratory illness in dogs over the last week. Due to the extremely contagious nature of the canine influenza virus, all dogs are at serious risk of infection when exposed. Like human flu, dog flu is most dangerous to puppies, seniors, and dogs who are already sick. Canine influenza viruses pose a low threat to people. Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there has been no evidence of spread of canine influenza viruses from dogs to people, nor a single reported case of human infection with a canine influenza virus in the U.S. or worldwide.

Public Policy Institute Releases Report on Recidivism of Felony Offenders in California

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/25/2019 02:26 PM
Sacramento, CA...California has undertaken numerous corrections reforms in the past decade—including public safety realignment in 2011 and Proposition 47 in 2014—in hopes of reducing the prison population, maintaining public safety, and improving persistently high recidivism rates. These reforms lowered incarceration levels, and in their aftermath, crime rates have fluctuated. Recidivism rates provide another important window into public safety and the effectiveness of correctional interventions under these policy changes.

Executive Order Establishing a White House Council on Eliminating Regulatory Barriers to Affordable Housing

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/25/2019 10:32 PM
Washington, DC...By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows: Section 1. Purpose. For many Americans, access to affordable housing is becoming far too difficult. Rising housing costs are forcing families to dedicate larger shares of their monthly incomes to housing. In 2017, approximately 37 million renter and owner households spent more than 30 percent of their incomes on housing, with more than 18 million spending more than half of their incomes on housing. Between 2001 and 2017, the number of renter households allocating more than half of their incomes toward rent increased by nearly 45 percent. These rising costs are leaving families with fewer resources for necessities such as food, healthcare, clothing, education, and transportation, negatively affecting their quality of life and hindering their access to economic opportunity.
