Washington, DC...This morning, a flight from Wuhan carrying U.S. government personnel and some private Americans safely landed in California. As we have previously noted, these travelers will be carefully screened and monitored by the health experts at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Health and Human Services (HHS). All appropriate steps are being taken to safeguard the health of these returning Americans, as well as the health and safety of their fellow Americans here at home.

U.S. Contributing $2 Million in Additional Funds to Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation

Washington, DC...To honor Holocaust victims, to preserve the Auschwitz and Birkenau Memorial and Museum so future generations never forget, and to further efforts to combat contemporary forms of anti-Semitism, the Department of State, working with Congress, intends to contribute an additional $2 million to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation. This contribution is in addition to the $15 million the United States provided over a five-year period, which ended in 2018, to support the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation. This funding demonstrates our commitment to Holocaust education, remembrance, dialogue, and research.

Sacramento, CA...California Attorney General Becerra today issued a statement following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to stay the nationwide injunction on the public charge rule. As a result of the ruling, the Trump Administration will be allowed to restart its efforts to implement its harmful public charge rule while litigation is ongoing. The rule unnecessarily targets working immigrants and their families by turning the use of critical health, nutrition, and housing programs that supplement their modest incomes into barriers to lawful admission to the United States.

RCRC Installs 2020 Officers and Presents Rural Leadership Awards

Sacramento, CA...The Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) installed its 2020 Officers and presented its Rural Leadership Awards at their annual reception in Sacramento yesterday. Merced County Supervisor Daron McDaniel was installed as Chair, Mono County Supervisor Stacy Corless was installed as First Vice Chair, and Nevada County Supervisor Dan Miller was installed as Second Vice Chair. Inyo County Supervisor Matt Kingsley remains an Officer as Immediate Past Chair. Assembly Member Adam Gray (D-Merced) administered the official Oath of Officers. The newly installed 2020 Officers will lead the organization in championing policies on behalf of California’s rural counties.
