Murphys Woman Loses Her Life in Vallecito Road Collision

Angels Camp, CA...Betty G Zimmerman from Murphys was her Pontiac northbound on Vallecito Road, south of State Route 4 at an unknown speed. A Murphys man was driving his Chevy pickup southbound on Vallecito Road, south of State Route 4 at an unknown speed. For an unknown reason, she allowed her vehicle to cross the solid double yellow lines and enter the southbound lane. He was unable to avoid a collision and both vehicles struck head-on. Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway. Unfortunately, Betty Zimmerman sustained fatal injuries as a result of this collision. He was transported by life flight helicopter for treatment of major injuries.

Angels Camp, CA...Richard E. Wilmshurst was born in San Francisco, California, on May 26, 1936. He passed into heaven on Sunday, December 13, 2020 in Lodi, California. Like many loved ones during the Covid-19 pandemic, our father endured the physical separation from his family and friends at a nursing facility. He appreciated the meaningful calls and window visits of family during his time there. Prior to Lodi, Dad happily resided at Somerford Place in Stockton, California, where he received exceptional care.

Murphys, CA…..On Wednesday, December 2, 2020, Rosemarye Elizabeth Montoya Mortensen passed away at home after living a vivacious life of 100 years. The only daughter of Andrew Montoya and Marye Montoya West, born on March 31, 1920 in Oakland, CA. A native Californian, she was raised in San Pablo, CA. She graduated from Richmond High School and was a member of the Valkyrs sorority. Rosemarye worked for AT&T during her early adulthood and joined the Eastern Star at the young age of 20. She was an 80 year long-standing member of the Eastern Star.

Darby passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at English Oaks Convalescent & Rehabilitation Hospital in Modesto in loving care where she spent the last nine months of her life. Eleanor was born January 28, 1937 in Angles Camp, CA to Giusto and Katie Schena. She was the second of four siblings, Elda (Darby), Clelia (Petithomme) and Frank Schena (deceased). She was married to Daniel B. Darby from June 29, 1957 until Dan’s passing on November 9, 2013.

Weldon Eugene Allen 1929 - 2020, Flying Amongst Angels

Sonora, CA...On Monday, December 7, 2020, Weldon Eugene Allen, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away in Sonora, California at the age of 91. Weldon was born on May 13, 1929 at a ranch in the south plains of Texas near Amarillo to William and Linda Zodeen Allen. At 17, he joined the military, stationed at naval air bases in Jacksonville and Memphis, as an aviation metalsmith. On August 16, 1951, he married Joan Arlene Barrett whom he adored for nearly 70 years. They settled down in San Leandro California, where they raised their two daughters, Carol and Donna. In 1982, Weldon started his own aircraft maintenance and repair business at the Oakland Airport, moving it to the Calaveras County Airport in 1991 when he “retired”.

Burton “Burt” Paulson 1937 to 2020

Murphys, Ca......On Wednesday, November 25, 2020, Burton passed away at home surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family. Burt was an identical twin born January 12, 1937 in Oakland, California to Burton and Maxine Paulson. His family lived in Napa, Ca. until Burt and his brother were sophomores in high school. They moved to Concord, Ca. where the twins attended Mt. Diablo High. It was there Burt met the love of his life, Pat Draper. They married and had 3 children, raising their family in Concord. Burt worked for 38 years and retired from Chevron. Burt and Pat moved to Murphys, Ca. (Forest Meadows) in 1994 where they have enjoyed retirement traveling, playing golf, horse races and family. Burt was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and a former member of Forest Meadows Men’s Golf Club.

First Man to Beak the Sound Barrier, Brigadier General Chuck Yeager Has Passed Away at 97

Grass Valley, CA...From Wikipedia..."Charles Elwood Yeager (February 13, 1923 – December 7, 2020) was a United States Air Force officer, flying ace, and record-setting test pilot. In 1947, he became the first pilot in history confirmed to have exceeded the speed of sound in level flight.  Yeager's career began in World War II as a private in the United States Army Air Forces in 1941.[a] After serving as an aircraft mechanic, in September 1942 he entered enlisted pilot training and upon graduation was promoted to the rank of flight officer (the World War II USAAF equivalent to warrant officer), later achieving most of his aerial victories as a P-51 fighter pilot on the Western Front, where he shot down over 11 enemy aircraft.
