Mokelumne Hill, CA...Surrounded by love, Sydney "Syd" Mathos Cilenti passed away at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital (San Andreas) early Sunday evening on May 8, 2016. She was 83. Syd considered herself a life-long resident of Calaveras County having moved here in 1953. With her husband, Joe Mathos, Syd ran the gas station in downtown Moke Hill across the street from Shutter Tree Park until the late 1960's.

Arnold, CA...Dear Arnold Rim Trail Equestrians, Cyclists, and Hikers, It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to Dave Edney who passed away earlier this year suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart attack. Almost everyone who came into contact with the Arnold Rim Trail Association over the past eight years knows "Captain Dave". He led our volunteer trailbuilding days, he led the Cougar Rock sunset hikes, he was a steering committee member, and he was the Captain of the Ebbetts Pass Aid Station for the Death Ride which ARTA has been staffing for the past four years. Everyone loved Dave for his energy, his indefatigable spirit, and his infectious smile.

West Point, CA...Colby was born November 18, 2001 in Fresno, California. Colby was an active and prominent 4H member showing guinea pigs, rabbits, pigmy goats, and pigs. He loved being a member of the West Point's basketball, soccer, and T-ball teams. He was also a Webelos Cubscout participating in pack meetings, events, and outings. Colby was a friend to many and great at leading others at the local community center's food bank, keeping meticulous records. He devoted time and energy to provide services for others in need and loved his music.

Murphys, CA...Glenda Jean Hampton, age 76, of Murphys, went home to be with the Lord on Tues. April 12, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Hampton was a 50 year resident of Calaveras County, spending most of her childhood in White Pines, CA. She was a native of Oklahoma and very proud of her Cherokee Heritage.

Murphys, CA...Roberta Ann Wallace, was born on October 22 1946 at Columbia Way Hospital and died peacefully in her sleep, Thursday April 7 at 10:35 pm at Avalon Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital. She lived to be almost 70. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and daughter. She was a full time homemaker and married to Robert Wallace from Murphys.
Bakersfield, CA...Merle Ronald Haggard (April 6, 1937 – April 6, 2016) was an American country and Western songwriter, singer, guitarist, fiddler, and instrumentalist. Along with Buck Owens, Haggard and his band The Strangers helped create the Bakersfield sound, which is characterized by the unique twang of Fender Telecaster and the unique mix with the traditional country steel guitar sound, new vocal harmony styles in which the words are minimal, and a rough edge not heard on the more polished Nashville sound recordings of the same era.
San Andreas, CA...James Leonard March was Born September 17,1918, in Richmond, California. He was 97 years old when he passed away in Suisun City with youngest son Jerry of a Stroke on March 29, 2016. He Graduated high school in the Bay Area. He was a 2nd Officer in the Merchant Marines, 2nd Mate in the Coast Guard, served 33 years, World War 2, Korea, and Vietnam Wars. Worked for Master Mates and Pilots Union, Worked for Standard Oil Richmond Refinery prior to getting into the Merchant Marines. After retiring, he became a Master Gardener, grew all his own vegetables, Spent a lot of time fishing for Salmon in Puget Sound, Washington.
Murphys, CA...Murphys resident Waldtraut “Wally” Gill died unexpectedly of natural causes on Wednesday, March 30th. She was 84 years old. Wally was born on March 11, 1932, in Newark, New Jersey, to Kate (Berlieb) and Thomas Rodegker, both originally from Germany. She attended South 17th Street Elementary and West Side High School in Newark, and spent her summers on the Jersey shore. She attended the Newark campus of Rutgers University, where she earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science. She studied Biology, Chemistry, and Zoology. In 1955, she received a Fullbright scholarship to study chemistry at the University of Munich, Germany for a year, one of only two such awards granted each year.
Copperopolis, CA...Ronald 'Ron' Scott Young, 77, died Friday March 25th at home with his wife following a brief illness. Born and raised in Medford, Mass, Ron leaves behind his wife of 31 years, MJ Young, daughters Debby, Amy, Jen, Kathy, Kara, 6 grandchildren and many, many close friends.
San Andreas, CA...Richard “Rick” Dell Rider died at home on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the age of 66, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born in November of 1949 to Harold and Dean Rider in San Mateo, CA. Rick led an exciting life in his early years and was an avid Grateful Dead follower. Rick moved to San Andreas in 1984, where he worked in sales at a motorcycle shop before becoming the lead custodian at Toyon Middle School. Rick worked at Toyon for 16 years, until he was diagnosed in the summer of 2015.
