Angels Camp, CA....At the monthly Friends of the Fair Board Member meeting Wednesday evening, a decision was reached by the Board to reduce the annual membership dues to $25 per family. The Friends of the Fair hope to gain new members including the more “junior” citizens of our community. The Friends of the Fair are looking for members all over the county to join the Board and dedicate their time and ideas to the Fair in an effort to guarantee its success and survival. Any community members interested in joining the Friends of the Fair are encouraged to do so. Simply contact the Fairground Office to learn more. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of every month at CAMPS Restaurant in Angels Camp. ....

Frogtown, USA....A Regular Board Meeting of the Board of Directors of the 39th District Agricultural Association will be held in the Board Room, Frogtown®; Angels Camp, California at 5:30PM on Wednesday February 9, 2011. Frogtown, USA...."Green Gowns" Dress Swap will be in the Frogeteria at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 12 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Last year, the Fairgrounds hosted a dress swap in an effort to provide women in Calaveras County an opportunity to buy, sell, donate, or swap their evening gowns. The event was so successful it will be repeated again this year. At the Dress Swap women can donate their dresses, try to sell them or trade them with new dresses. Also, those looking to find a new evening gown, prom dress, etc. can come and look at all the wonderful gowns for sale or trade....

Angels Camp, CA.....History Channel series, Only in America to feature the Frog Jump. On Tuesday, February 8th at 9/8C, The History Channel will premier the first episode in their new series, titled “Only in America,” featuring Larry the Cable Guy. Larry the Cable Guy visited the 2010 Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. He jumped a frog, rode the ferris wheel with Mark Twain and visited several locals and sites at the fair. The season premier episode is called “Larry Makes Moonshine, and will show Larry jumping a frog. ...........

Angels Camp, CA....The Friends of the Calaveras County Fair are hosting a Pre-Fair Dinner Dance and local mustache display. The Whiskerino Dinner Dance is planned for Saturday, April 30, 2011. The Whiskerino is the official kick off event leading up to the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee May 19 – 22, 2011. The Whiskerino has a fine historic tradition in Calaveras County. Although the Whiskerino dates back to the 1940s it was revitalized in the 1950’s and held for the next forty years. In 1955 Bob Petithome, Angels Camp resident, won the award for best full beard. He says the best part of the event was seeing “all the slick chins” try to grow beards.......

Angels Camp, CA....Saddle Queen Applications Now Available. The Calaveras Saddle Queen Competition has become one the Fair’s signature events. The Fair’s scholarship fund will be awarding $2,000 in cash awards to the top three competitors. Young women are judged on their interview skills as well their horsemanship abilities. These hard working students have an extensive preparation process in and out of the Arena. ......
