San Andreas, CA...The latest activity logs for the Calaveras County Sheriff's Deputies are below.
Arnold, CA...On May 24, 2024, at about 7:25 PM, deputies were dispatched to the 3000 block of Ponderosa Road in Arnold for a report of a physical altercation. Upon arrival, the deputy on scene was directed to the location of the suspect, Michael Kenneth Saunders, age 47, from Arnold. Suspect Saunders was detained without incident while the deputy initiated an investigation. During the investigation, the deputy learned that suspect Saunders was friends with the victim prior to this incident. The incident began with suspect Saunders entering his friend's residence without an invitation through an unlocked front door. The victim objected to suspect Saunders entering the residence and conveyed his disapproval. Suspect Saunders became upset and subsequently punched the victim. Upon demand of the victim, suspect Saunders left the residence.
CAL FIRE Suspends Burn Permits in Calaveras, Tuolumne, Eastern San Joaquin, and Eastern Stanislaus Counties

San Andreas, CA...After another wet winter and above average snowpack, warming temperatures and winds are quickly drying out the abundant annual grass crop. The increasing fire danger posed by the high volume of dead grass and hotter, drier conditions in the region is prompting CAL FIRE to suspend all burn permits for outdoor residential burning within the State Responsibility Area of Calaveras, Tuolumne, Eastern San Joaquin, and Eastern Stanislaus Counties. This suspension takes effect June 5, 2024 and suspends all residential outdoor burning of landscape debris such as branches and leaves.
73 Year Old Texas Woman Loses Life in Hwy 120 Head-On Collision

Groveland, CA...On May 29th, 2024, just before 1:00pm, 73-year-old James Brent of Humble, Texas was driving a 2024 Kia Forte westbound on State Route 120, west of Smith Station Road along with his 73-year-old female passenger also from Humble Texas. At that same time, 25-year-old Andrew Burney of Truckee, Ca was driving a 2013 Kia Soul eastbound on State Route 120, west of Smith Station Road. For an unknown reason, Mr. Brent allowed his vehicle to travel over the double yellow line, directly in the path of Mr. Burney’s vehicle. As a result, the front of both vehicle’s crashed into each other head-on.
Rail Road Flat, CA...On May 28, 2024, at about 4:00 PM, The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Search and Rescue Team and deputies were dispatched to a report of a missing person in the 400 Block of Ridge Rd, Rail Road Flat. The missing female’s name is Ione. She is approximately 75 years old, 5 feet tall, weighs 120 pounds, and has white and black hair. Ione was last seen wearing a blue and white plaid jacket, blue jeans, and black boots. She left her residence today (May 28th, 2024) on foot in an unknown direction at about 3:30 PM.
