San Andreas, CA...A Significantly watered down sign proposal was passed by the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors earlier this afternoon. Rogers Media had originally proposed three illuminated 128 square ft. Billboards along Hwy 12 in the Valley Springs area. The proposed property is zoned M-2 and is zoned for the project. Today's vote was on an appeal of an earlier Planning Commission denial of the signs. What was passed by the board was to allow one sign without illumination and have the permit to have the sign on the property expire after 5 years...

To Appeal Or Not To Appeal...That Was The Question...Or Was It? Give me a Double Variance on the Rocks Please! ~By John Hamilton (Updated With Official Video) |
Posted by: thepinetree on 09/02/2008 09:32 AM

San Andreas, CA...The Historic Murphys Hotel's new signage was back before the board this morning..or was it? It was an interesting discussion to say the least. Supervisor Tryon wanted the Board to review the planning commission's decision to allow the replacement of the dying tree and existing sign holder with a new sign pole and neon sign very similar in appearance to the existing sign with a small adult beverage glass added to the top of it. This sign is a recreation of the sign that adorned the hotel in the 1940's. Was it an appeal? Could Supervisor Tryon Vote on it our would he have to recuse himself? Could he vote today but not later? What exactly were they voting on? Would a formal appeal have to be filed? Would Public Works permit the sign anyway? Does the Hotel have an encroachment permit? Does it apply to this existing non-conforming use? Does it need to be noticed?...
