Murphys, CA...The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program is delighted to announce Murphys resident Kristin White as the April 2018 Mentor of the Month. Kristin has been matched with her 15-year-old mentee, Charis, for over a year. “Kristin is an exceptionally devoted and steady volunteer. She is very busy as an optometrist with the newly opened MACT Health Clinic in San Andreas,” said Katie Lackler, coordinator of the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program. “But when it comes to Charis, she always has enough time. From the beginning, Kristin and Charis have had a truly happy and fun connection.”

What do we know about older workers’ labor market participation and earnings today? We know that the number of older workers is on the rise. We also know that these workers are not only making more money on average than ever before but are outpacing the average earnings growth of other age groups.

Mt. Shasta and Mammoth Lakes, CA...Trout Fishing Season will open this Saturday, April 28th across California, and anglers have good reason to expect tight lines. Their stream-side success will be thanks, in part, to the work of California Trout. A non-profit restoration, research and advocacy organization, CalTrout runs projects throughout the state that support native salmon, steelhead and trout populations. Two current efforts that are helping trout populations are a conservation, recreation, and cultural resource protection program on Hat Creek, in Shasta County, and a research and restoration program in high Sierra meadows, which benefits Kern River rainbow trout.

Hermit Valley, CA...From Caltrans District 10...Check out the wall of snow that our crews are battling through on their way to the summit of Ebbetts Pass during the annual clearing of the Sierra Passes to get the routes open for the summer season. Caltrans Woodfords Area Lead Worker James Adams sent us the shots of the east side of State Route 4 where the road crosses over the PCT very near the summit.
