Washington, DC... Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted approval for Amondys 45 (casimersen) injection for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in patients who have a confirmed mutation of the DMD gene that is amenable to exon 45 skipping (Exons are pieces of DNA that provide information for making proteins in a person’s genome). The agency approved Amondys 45 based on an increase in dystrophin (a protein that helps keep muscle cells intact) production in skeletal muscle observed in patients treated with the therapy. This is the first FDA-approved targeted treatment for patients with this type of mutation. Approximately 8% of patients with DMD have a mutation that is amenable to exon 45 skipping.

Becerra, a case challenging California’s ban on the acquisition and possession of large-capacity magazines (LCMs). Last August, the Attorney General filed a petition seeking review of a divided three-judge panel’s decision to uphold a federal district court’s ruling that the LCM ban is unconstitutional. In today's order, the court also vacated the three-judge panel's decision.

Joey is Your Calaveras County Animal Services Pet of the Week!

San Andreas, CA... Meet Joey - an energetic, hound mix eager to find his forever home. About one year old, Joey enjoys playing ball and will sit nicely when asked. He is very affectionate with his handlers and was excited to play with some of the other shelter dogs to which he was introduced. Not all, though, so we’d recommend a “meet and greet” should you have another dog at home. Joey would benefit from some obedience training to help him better learn his leash manners. We also believe he is housebroken since he keeps his kennel clean.
