Welcome Aboard Community Service Officer Joelyne Lemas to Sonora Police Dept!

Sonora, CA... The Sonora Police Department would like to introduce you to our new Community Service Officer Joelyne Lemas. CSO Lemas was born in Fremont, California, and was raised in Modesto. She moved to Tuolumne County with her Fiance in 2013 and married him in 2014. The couple welcomed their son in 2017, who is a 6th generation Tuolumne County Resident. She has visited the motherlode throughout her life and has many fond memories of the area, including summer camping with her father around Pinecrest Lake.

However, since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and county-imposed rules on such gatherings, our monthly meetings have been held virtually in the Zoom environment.

Bureau of Land Management Announces Seasonal Fire Restrictions

Eldorado Hill, CA...The Bureau of Land Management announces seasonal fire restrictions, including temporary limitations on target shooting, effective May 21. The restrictions are for public lands managed by the Central Coast, Mother Lode and Ukiah field offices due to dry conditions and wildland fire danger. These seasonal restrictions are in addition to the year-round statewide fire prevention order, issued on April 28, 2020, and will remain in effect until further notice.

Seven-Year-Old Bria Heintz wins 2021 Jumping Frog Jubilee as Local Frog Jump Dynasty Scores Again

Frogtown, Angels Camp, CA...Seven-year-old Bria Heintz won the 2021 Jumping Frog Jubilee. Her frog named Firefly jumped 20 feet and 1 inch – short of the 21 feet 5 and ¾ inches World’s Record but creating lots of excitement Sunday at the Calaveras County Homecoming celebration. She is the third generation of an Angels Camp-based frog jumping dynasty and a member of the Calaveras Frog Jockeys team – five of the eight top winners in the Grand Finals are tied to the team.
