Some Stanislaus National Forest Seasonal Roads Will Remain Closed Until June 30

Sonora, CA...Some seasonal roads on the Stanislaus National Forest will remain closed until June 30, 2019, due to one of the heaviest snowfalls on record during the winter of 2018-2019. Forest staff continue to assess seasonal roads on all ranger districts and we will share seasonal road openings as they occur.

Throughout seven stages over seven days (May 12-18, 2019), the world’s elite professional cyclists will contest mountain roads, highways and coastlines from Sacramento to Pasadena. The 773-mile course through 13 Host Cities will ante up 14 Sprints, more than 68,000 feet of elevation gain and 25 King of the Mountain (KOM) climbs, the most in race history, and a fan-favorite Mt. Baldy summit finish. More than half of the seven stages feature 120+-mile courses.

Promontory, Utah...One hundred fifty years ago, the first transcontinental railroad in the United States was completed, and our Nation was changed forever. On May 10, 1869, the final golden spike was driven into the ground at Promontory Summit, Utah, joining the tracks of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads. This unbroken rail line of nearly 2,000 miles from Omaha, Nebraska, to Sacramento, California, connected the existing eastern rail network to the western states and territories, enabling passengers and goods to travel from coast to coast more economically and in as little as a week.

Vallecito, CA...A good sized crowd came for the fun of live music by Grover Anderson & The Lampoliers, The Food Shack Taco Truck & House made Sangria by Jon Oliveto at Stevenot Winery's Cinco Sunday. The event was the first of many at Stevenot Winery's new Vallecito location. No visitors to our area will have two choices for tasting & events at Stevenot. The winery and their downtown Murphys Tasting Room.
