Folsom, CA...Extreme heat continues urgent need to conserve electricity from 4 to 9 p.m. The California Independent System Operator (ISO) has extended its statewide Flex Alert, calling for a second consecutive day of voluntary electricity conservation tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 1, from 4 to 9 p.m., due to continuing extreme temperatures pushing up energy demand and tightening available power supplies.

Candy Rock Swimming Hole Search and Rescue Safety Warning

Hathaway Pines, CA...Calaveras County has many hidden treasures including natural swimming holes and hiking trails. One of these is the Candy Rock area of the Stanislaus River, which is a popular destination that has experienced a recent surge in persons who found themselves unprepared for the challenges and peril faced by all who attempt to enjoy it. Six people have required rescue from the area over the last two weeks. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office wishes to remind residents and visitors that this area is not without danger, and deaths and injuries have occurred at its location.

Heat Wave Grips Western U.S. Governor Newsom on Actions to Increase Energy Supplies and Reduce Demand

Sacramento, CA...Beginning Wednesday, California and the western U.S. will experience extreme heat that will strain the grid with increased energy demands. In response, Governor Gavin Newsom has proclaimed a State of Emergency to temporarily increase energy production and reduce demand. The California Independent System Operator has called a Flex Alert for today, August 31, asking Californians to reduce their electricity consumption between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. to save power and reduce the risk of outages.

Folsom, CA...The California Independent System Operator (ISO) has issued a statewide Flex Alert, a call for voluntary electricity conservation, for today, Aug. 31 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., due to high temperatures pushing up energy demand and tightening available power supplies. With excessive heat in the forecast across much of the state and Western U.S., the grid operator is expecting high electricity demand, primarily from air conditioning use, and is calling for voluntary conservation steps to help balance supply and demand. Additional Flex Alerts are also possible through the Labor Day weekend as record-setting temperatures are forecast across much of the West.

Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities over the holiday weekend. Hottest days forecast to occur Sunday and Monday. There will be limited overnight relief from the heat, with lows in the upper 60s to mid 80s.
