Aklestad and Olstad, take the 2022 Iron Dog Win! Arnold's David Wagner & Team 11 Finished 14th!

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/27/2022 09:31 AM
Wasilla, AK...Third time was the charm in the Iron Dog for Arnold's David Wagner.  After literally crashing and burning on his first two attempts. Well technically it was a burned down sled the first year and a sled broken in the crash the second year. Team 11 of Joseph Hale & David Wagner finished the 2475.00 mile course at an average speed of 30.93 MPH. In this race yes, winning is the goal but finishing in and of itself is a very real and tangible victory! The following is from the Iron Dog race release. Blue sky peeked through horizontal strips of cloud cover as Team 7 raced to victory in the 2022 Iron Dog race, stopping the clock at 11:21 a.m. Saturday. Tyler Aklestad and Nick Olstad, who won the race together in 2020 but scratched in 2021, had a comfortable lead this time around, allowing them to ride cautiously and avoid the pitfalls that befell several of this year’s teams.

Lovely February Specials from Black Sheep Winery

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/26/2022 11:38 AM
Murphys, CA… Black Sheep Winery arrived in Murphys with the 1984 harvest. From that first harvest we produced our 1984 Amador Zinfandel. The wine was styled in a big, bold way like nobody else could do. That’s what makes us Black Sheep; we’re different from the rest of the flock. We feature small batches of limited release wines handcrafted from high quality grapes grown in Calaveras and Amador Counties. We produce about 2,500 cases of wine per year, specializing in Zinfandels and Rhone varietals.

Hey Good People!! 17 Inches of Perfect Powder from Latest Storms! Your Pure Mountain Fun Awaits at Bear Valley!

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/24/2022 03:59 PM
Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! Mattly's weather forecast for Thursday. A beautiful crispy cold morning is in effect with an inversion putting it's feel on the town of Bear Valley as it was -2F when I rolled past at 6am. Snow survey up on the Mtn is posting 11F so snow conditions will remain great for off-piste riding with chalky groomers giving way to some excellent skiing and riding. A beautiful sunny day with no clouds is on tap with a high of 26F and lite South winds up to 7mph. Clear weather and cold temps will remain into Sunday then we'll see a short wave move through Sunday evening bringing a chance of snow. The week following has some good flavor to it with a good chance of some decent snowfall if the stars align and the system off the Northwest Coast of Washington decides to dig a little deeper in it's trajectory Southward. My hope is that the Euro model will outweigh the GFS and bring more favorable precipitation values to the area. Fingers crossed!

A Story Honoring Black History Month and Women's History Month

Posted by: News_Desk on 02/23/2022 12:59 PM
Columbia Falls, ME...Written by Wreaths Across America: During the first World War Ralph Lindsey, my great grandfather, kept a journal of his service on the front. He wrote about the front, his travels, his wounds, but the thing that came up most often – the mail. Fast-forward 100 years. Even in the digital age there is something uniquely personal about a written letter – it creates a connection that digital communications simply cannot match. Anyone who has served in the military knows – no mail equals low morale. Click 'Read More' for full story.
