Thousands Remain Powerless (At Least from PG&E) on Friday Morning!
Posted by: thepinetree on 01/29/2021 09:03 AM
Arnold, CA...The local power outage situation has not improved from last evening and in some areas the outages increased. The outages are widespread and in some cases PG&E cannot even access the damaged equipment to start repairs. Lets hope the break in the weather on Saturday and Sunday will allow PG&E and other utility companies such as Comcast to get the necessary repairs made to their systems. As of this morning Amador seems to be fairing better that Alpine, Calaveras or Tuolumne Counties. The Images are North to South from Amador County to Groveland.
Hey Good People!! Bear Valley Recovering & Doing Avalanche Control Today for an Epic Tomorrow!!
Posted by: thepinetree on 01/29/2021 09:50 AM
Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! We will be closed today 1/29/21 for snow recovery and reopen Saturday 1/30/21.
16″ of new snow has fallen overnight and 63″ in the last 5 days! Today we could pick up another 1-2″ before the system exhausts itself and heads East. 21F looks to be the high today with lite SSW winds up to 8mph. Saturday is looking to be the bluebird we all look forward to with a high of 30F and superb coverage all around the operable terrain. Grizzly Bowl will remain closed through the weekend to allow some settling to help out with Avalanche Hazards in that area. Currently Avalanche Hazards are at 5 Extreme, the highest on the scale so in depth analysis and slow moving will be the key to mitigate the current hazards across the resort. Some chair opening delays may be possible on Saturday so we ask for your patience. Get out and ski/ride and enjoy the Pure Mtn Fun ethos!
Stay tuned...

Bear Valley, CA...(Update...While the store will be open today the trail system and sledding hills will be closed as crews dig out and groom from the latest storm.) The Bear Valley Adventure Company (BVAC) is excited to offer cross country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and tubing experiences for the 2020/2021 winter season. Since COVID-19 is alive and well, we have instituted some new rules in order to keep everyone safe. Masks covering your nose and mouth are required inside the store, and anywhere social distancing (minimum 6 feet separation from others) cannot be maintained. On busy days, such as weekends and holidays: Be prepared to wait outside the store to maintain healthy spacing indoors. Plan to dress accordingly.

Update on Storm Related PG&E Power Outages. Blankets, Batteries & Bottled Water at Murphys Warming Center
Posted by: thepinetree on 01/29/2021 05:36 PM
Stockton, CA...We wanted to provide an update on power outages as we are through the worst of the storm. The good news is that we haven’t seen the massive outage activity that we had predicted, particularly in the lower elevations of Calaveras County and the Highway 26 area. There are almost 8,000 customers out in the upper Highway 4 area, from Arnold to Bear Valley due to wind and snow related damages. PG&E crews are very early in our process of assessing damage, so we are not able to provide good estimated times of restoration yet. I will keep you posted as we know more, and of course please reach out if you have any questions.
Hey Good People!! 24 Inches of New Snow Overnight! Stellar Weekend Ahead at Skyline Bear Valley!
Posted by: thepinetree on 01/28/2021 07:36 AM
Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! We will be closed today 1/28/21 for snow recovery and reopen Friday 1/29/21. 24″ of new snow has fallen overnight and 45″ in the last 4 days! As the day gets going continued snowfall is expected with another 16-22″ expected today as well as 6-10″ overnight before things settle down a bit. Winds will continue today albeit much lower values around the 15-25mph range with a few gusts higher. The high today will try to reach 28F but cold air aloft and winds I bet will force the hand at cooler temps. Saturday looks to be THE day as sunshine looks abundant with the high coming in around 30F and well, exceptional skiing and riding is to be had. Friday is going to be a good day to get out and ride ahead of the weekend. Next week looks to bring another shot of snow on Monday night then a reprieve for a handful of days as we move into February. Get out and ski/ride and enjoy the Pure Mtn Fun ethos! Stay tuned……..
Elsa is Your Calaveras County Animal Services Pet of the Week!
Posted by: News_Desk on 01/28/2021 02:07 PM
San Andreas, CA... Meet Elsa, a German Shepherd dog of between five and six years of age. Elsa is unusual in that she is AKC registered and surrendered by her owners. There are many reasons why German Shepherds rate among the top ranks of canine royalty but experts say their defining attribute is above all character: loyalty, courage, intelligence and a willingness to put their lives on the line in defense of loved ones. If you’re looking for a strong, brave dog to protect you and your home, Elsa might just be your girl. She will need a confident owner who understands the breed and can be her alpha since left on her own she has killed chickens and other smaller domestic animals. A good fence will be necessary, too, as Elsa has escaped others, especially when electric batteries were allowed to wear down. To her credit, Elsa’s previous owners reported she was good with their young children and lived compatibly with another dog.

Thousands Remain Without Power Along Hwy 4 & Hwy 108 Corridors
Posted by: thepinetree on 01/28/2021 07:57 PM
Arnold, CA...Because of the snow loads PG&E is having trouble even accessing the equipment that was damaged and now throwing thousands in the dark. In an outbound call from PG&E they stated that in some cases it may be days till power is fully restored. Comcast is also having widespread outages as well in the affected areas. The Hwy 4 Corridor is taking the worst of it this storm cycle as power is out from Arnold all the way to Bear Valley & Lake Alpine. Along the Hwy 108 Corridor outages are clustered in the Twain Harte area.
