Proclomation Suspending Burn Permits on all State Responsibility Areas Within Tuolumne/Calaveras Unit~From Lisa Williams

Due to the menace of wildfires and their potential to destroy life and property, and utilizing the authority vested in me by Section 4423.1 of the Public Resources Code, and by the Governor’s Executive Order S-9-04, I herby proclaim that all BURNING PERMITS within State Responsibility Areas in the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit will be SUSPENDED beginning 8AM, Tuesday, May 6, 2008. Past fire history combined with dry vegetation, predicted fire weather and other factors, have prompted me to proclaim the following types of burning restrictions and exceptions.....

Two Small Fires in Up Country This Weekend

CAL Fire has Sent the two official Fire releases for a couple of vegetation fires that occurred on Hwy 4 in upcountry over the weekend. The first one occurred in rural Calaveras County near access road 5N52 US Forest Service Land. Cause of the the fire is undetermined. Damages were 1 acre of woodland with an estimated amount of $300 in damages. No injuries reported. The 2nd also occurred in rural Calaveras County up Hwy 4 and was caused by a lightening strike. Total damage was 1 acre of vegetation. No injuries reported. Full CAL Fire reports enclosed....

My typical relaxing Saturday was recently given an all too familiar jolt when the calm of my early morning was broken by the thunder of airplanes and helicopters flying closely overhead. Stepping outside I looked up to see exactly what I didn't want to, a CDF Tactical plane, Tanker and Helicopter - and they were close, seemingly circling directly over head. Scanning the horizon, I found that the fire was very close, only about a 1/4 mile from my home.....

CHP is reporting a three vehicle collision with Ambulance Responding at Hwy 49 just north of Angels Camp. Traffic is extremely backed up.....please use caution in the area. We will keep you posted if needed.

CHP San Andreas Area Advises May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

Calaveras County, CA....San Andreas Area Commander Lt. J. R. Pelfanio would like to remind you that May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in California. In 2007, five of the thirteen fatal collisions in the CHP San Andreas’ jurisdiction were involving motorcyclists. Three crossed over the double yellow lines in a curve were hit head on by another vehicle and the other two failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and ran off the roadway edge. This year, one of the four fatal collisions has involved a motorcyclist which ran off the roadway edge.....

NEWS ALERT....Pipe Bomb Found in Vehicle in Downtown Angels Camp Sunday Evening(Updated)

Angels Camp, CA...At approximately 8:13pm this evening, a vehicle was pulled over by Angels Camp Police Department Officer Scarborough, for a vehicle infraction in front of the Angels Camp Fire Department at Hwy 4. There was an adult male and adult female in the vehicle. The female from Turlock, the male from Modesto. The male was arrested on an outstanding Felony Narcotics Warrant. During inspection of the vehicle after the stop, what appeared to be a pipe bomb was discovered in the vehicle. Immediately after the discovery, Hwy 4 at 49 was closed and the Calaveras Bomb Squad was called out to take care of the device. A 2nd charge of possession of an explosive was added for the man already in custody. The woman was released. The Hwy was immediately closed for approximately 1 hour and reopened at around 9:15pm.

CHP Release in for Vehicle Collision Reported at Hwy 26 on Friday

We received a CHP release on a solo vehicle accident that occurred on Friday May 2nd at approximately 4am. A 36 year old male from Wilseyville was driving intoxicated at a speed of 40mph at Hwy 26 and Deardoff Road. A deer jumped in front of his vehicle and he swerved to avoid hitting the deer. After hitting the deer he lost control and the front end of his vehicle impacted a dirt embankment. No injuries reported. The driver was booked on DUI charges and taken to Calaveras County Jail. Full release enclosed.....
