Quorum Health Consulting Contract Decision Pushed Back At MTHCD Board Meeting

San Andreas, CA...The biggest item on yesterday's Mark Twain Health Care District Board meeting was pushed back until the August 24th meeting. There may need to be some state specific contract adjustments. The agenda item was: "Consider approval of an agreement with Quorum Health Resources LLC for a financial, operational and strategic assessment of hospital operations to determine the District’s ability to sustain itself as an independent hospital and identify alternatives if independence is not an option"

Burson Man Arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Burson, CA...On 08/02/16 at approx. 9:00 PM Calaveras Sheriff’s Communications Center received a 911 call from a reporting party stating that a male adult, identified as Troy Casteel (47 years of age) out of Burson, was involved in a dispute with a family member at a residence on the 5000 block of Southworth Road in Burson. During the dispute Mr. Casteel allegedly displayed a handgun and threatened to kill the family member. The family member was able to escape the house, but a two year child was left behind with Casteel. Sheriff’s deputies responded and attempted to have Casteel meet them outside the house, but were unsuccessful.

Traffic Update....Road Construction On Hwy 26 This Week

Calaveras County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various road construction activities on State Route 26 (SR-26) from Savage Way, south of Valley Springs, to the Calaveras/Amador County line. Work will occur as follows: One-way traffic control on eastbound and westbound SR-26 from Savage Way to Paloma Road for paving operations beginning on Sunday, July 31, 2016, through Friday, August 5, 2016, from 7:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. One-way traffic control on eastbound and westbound SR-26 from Hogan Dam Road to West SR-12 in Valley Springs for utility work beginning Monday, August 1, 2016, through Friday, August 5, 2016, from 7:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

Major Injuries To Idaho & Valley Springs Women In Head On Collision

San Andreas, CA...Yesterday about 1pm west of the Hwys 12 & 49 intersection a 25 year old Idaho woman was traveling westbound on State Route 12 west of State Route 49. A 75 year old Valley Springs woman was traveling eastbound on State Route 12. The Idaho woman allowed her Toyota pickup to drift completely into the eastbound traffic lane, directly in the path of the oncoming Mercury driven by the Valley Springs woman. The Toyota and Mercury collided head on, completely in the eastbound traffic lane. The pickup came to rest within the eastbound lane and the Mercury rolled off the south side of the roadway. Both parties were trapped in their vehicles until they were extracted by fire department personnel and transported to trauma centers. The roadway was completely blocked for approximately 1 hour with detours in place.

Major Injures To Valley Springs Man & San Andreas Woman In Second Head On Collision On Hwy 12 Yesterday

Valley Springs, CA...Yesterday evening at about 10:30pm a 17 year old San Andreas woman was traveling eastbound on State Route 12, east of Double Springs Rd. A 58 year old Valley Springs man was traveling westbound on State Route 12, east of Double Springs Rd. She allowed her Nissan Maxima to drift into the westbound traffic lane, directly into the path of his Dodge pickup. The Nissan and Dodge collided head on. The Maxima came to rest within the eastbound lane and the pickup rolled onto its right side in the middle of the roadway.

Kearney Recall Election To Move Forward & Filing Period Starts Today

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Clerk Recorder and Registrar of Voters has issued an order to hold the recall election for the purpose of determining whether County Supervisor District 5, Steven Kearney is to be recalled and to fill the vacancy if the member is recalled; pursuant to Elections Code Section 11241 which states: “If the governing board fails to issue the order within the time specified in section 11240, the county elections official, within five days shall set the date for holding the election.” The proclamation and notice of election is attached. The filing period opens today July 27, 2016 and closes August 25, 2016, this closing filing period applies to candidates filing for the Supervisor District 5 contest only.

Calaveras Sheriff's Department Promotes Four & Hires Eight! Photos & Full Ceremony Video

San Andreas, CA...Yesterday morning the meeting room at the Sheriff's Dept headquarters was filled to overflowing with friends family and well wishers as the Calaveras Sheriff's Department held a swearing in ceremony for eight new hires and promoted four. The new hires are Corrections Officer Katrina Large, Corrections Officer Jason Crawford, Dispatcher Samantha King, Business Administrator Maria Hinsey, Deputy Erik Schrantz, Deputy Lance Williams, Deputy Brian Terry, Deputy Talya-Ann Mattos. Congratulations to Sergeant Heather Gordon, Sergeant Kevin Stevens, Corporal DeAyrian Sanchez and Corporal Jim Moser on their promotions.

Rickie Mae Fry 1936 - 2016

Valley Springs, CA...Rickie Mae Fry passed away peacefully at home at the age of 80, on Tuesday, July 19, 2016. She was with her husband, sister and son. Rickie was born on January 20, 1936 in Los Angeles, CA. She spend the last 25 years in Burson. She is survived by her husband Wayne, 2 sons, Wayne Thomas and Ronald, her sister Margie McLaughlin, and brother James Hancock. She is also survived by her grandchildren Scotty, Ronnie, Katherine as well as 6 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Ann.
