Electrical Work on State Route 12 from Messing Road to Evans Road in Calaveras County |

Calaveras County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform one-way traffic control on eastbound and westbound State Route 12 from Messing Road to Evans Road, west of Valley Springs, for electrical work. Work will begin Monday, May 8, 2017, through Friday, May 12, 2017, from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Motorists should expect 10-minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.

Lodi Woman Arrested For DUI In Rollover Collision in Valley Springs |

Valley Springs, CA...A 21 year old Lodi woman was driving her Honda southbound on Quail Oaks Road, approaching Butler Lane, traveling approximately 45 mph, with a 25 year Lodi man seated in the right front seat. She made an unsafe turning movement as she was negotiating a slight left hand curve in the roadway, and she allowed her Honda to travel off of the roadway, onto the west shoulder. The Honda then rolled over, and came to rest on its wheels.

Copperopolis, CA...In 1895 James A. Tower was only 16 years old when, using barbed wire fencing, he strung the first telephone line for what was to become The Calaveras Telephone Company. As demands for the telephone service increased, the young Mr. Tower found it necessary to establish a central office in the small community of Felix near the town of Copperopolis. Then in 1899, Mr. Tower, now 20 years old, negotiated an agreement with Sunset Telephone Company that would connect his subscribers by telephone with the rest of the world.

Valley Springs, CA...On 04/27/17 at about 2345 hours, The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 400 block of La Contenta Drive in Valley Springs for a 9-1-1 call. An 83-year-old victim reported that 38-year-old Jeffrey Alan Greg had strangled and assaulted her. The female victim told deputies that she locked herself in her bedroom, but the suspect kicked the door in. She was able to escape the house and call 911.

Steven E. Sapp, 69 From Ripon Passed Away In Hwy 12 Collision |

Valley Springs, CA...The sad notifications to his family have been made and it can now be released that it was Steven E. Sapp, 69 From Ripon that passed away in an early morning collision on Hwy 12 yesterday. He was driving his Ford Explorer westbound on State Route 12, east of Evans Road at an unknown speed. He allowed his vehicle to leave the roadway, traveling off the right shoulder and striking an oak tree. The collision was reported at 5:47am on April 26.
