Gary McGeorge 1952 - 2024

Angels Camp, CA...Gary McGeorge, 71 of Angels Camp, passed away on May 3, 2024. Born on May 12, 1952, in Lodi, California, to Ralph and Blanche McGeorge of San Andreas, he leaves behind two daughters, Sara Tutthill of Murphys and Holly Shaw (Ben) of Sutter Creek; one granddaughter, Makenna Tutthill; three grandsons, Bradey Tutthill, Dylan Shaw, and Hunter Shaw; two brothers, Tim McGeorge (Tammy) of Lodi and David McGeorge (Ann) of San Andreas; and one sister, Linda Wilmshurst of San Andreas. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Donna McGeorge, and his son-in-law, CT Tutthill.

Gary lived his entire life in Calaveras County, graduating from Calaveras High School in 1970. He was co-MVP of the Motherload League his senior year for basketball and was a star track athlete with records that are still on the wall today. After high school, he worked at Calaveras Cement and had various other jobs, including at the pack house and as the blaster at the Cataract Quarry. He also attended junior college and served his country in the National Guard.

He spent the majority of his career with the Calaveras Sanitary District, serving as the Sanitary District Manager. He was well known in the community for serving on the Mark Twain Union School District Board as well as serving as an AMA Youth Sports director, coaching and managing the Ponytail Softball League for many years.

Gary was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, hunting, and fishing. Gary felt the most spiritual when he was out in nature. Longtime Gun Club member, he loved playing cards, steak dinners, teaching hunter safety, and serving his community. He found the greatest joy watching his grandchildren play sports, attending every game he could. At home, he was a Raiders and Giants fan. Wherever he was, he always enjoyed a good book and a good cigar.

A private memorial with immediate family will be held. In lieu of flowers, a donation to AMA Youth Sports would be appreciated.
