Murphys, CA....The town of Murphys held their 1st Annual "Pink in the Night" Celebration on Wednesday with an Opening Ceremony at the Murphys Hotel. At 6pm, local businesses in Murphys lit up the town pink with lights in honor of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to remember those living with breast cancer, their family and friends who provide them with love and support, and to everyone that has been touched by the disease. The pink lights will be kept lit during the month of October. "Tonight we celebrate one color and that one color is PINK."

This year 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 40,000 of them will die. Early and accurate diagnosis is the best tool for fighting this disease. Eight inspiring women who have survived breast cancer attended the Pink in the Night and truly touched the hearts of those whom they surrounded.

The pink lights symbolize hope, and Foundation hopes to make a difference in someone’s life. This event serves as a reminder to women that it is time to take charge of their own health. Women are encouraged to get an annual mammogram, do a monthly self-exam, or seeing a physician for a regular check-up…and perhaps support the current Digital Mammogram Campaign to bring this technology to Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital was proud to announce that they have reached $850,000 towards their 1 million dollar goal in less than a year. On October 10th the hospital will be holding a Breast Cancer Luncheon and encourage those who have questions to attend.

The Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Foundation operates as a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation whose mission is to continuously improve the health of the community.
