Supervisor Russ Thomas Hosted One of Two Tax Saving Meetings...Next One August 13th in Copperopolis....Complete Meeting Video Enclosed

Jenny Lind, CA...Supervisor Russ Thomas played host and invited County Assessor Grant W. Metzger, Jr. and Leslie Davis, Assistant Assessor to address the public on if the declining home values can also lower your tax bill. Last night's meeting was held at the Jenny Lind Firehouse. The Assessor's office has already sent out 5,500 notices to county property owners who have had a value decline. If you have not received a notice then at least according to the county your property values have not dropped....

Assistant Assessor Leslie Davis Instructs the Crowd as Assessor Metzger & Supervisor Thomas look on.

You can appeal to have your values reexamined as long as you appeal before November 30th of this year. You can also pay to have you home reappraised but this might not be a necessary step. The forms to appeal are in the County Clerks office. Leslie Davis did a wonderful job explaining some of the arbitrary intricacies of the rules they use to determine values. There are also fairly clear rules put into place by Proposition's 8 & 13 that affect this process.

To qualify you must file your appeal in a timely manner. They will and cannot look at appeals outside of the legal time frame. In the video below some of the questions are naturally Jenny Lind and Rancho Calaveras specific based on the location of the meeting. The rules however are county wide and we thought this would be a topic of interest to not only our Valley Springs area visitors but the entire county as well.

They will host a second meeting on August 13th at the Copper Fire House at 7pm as well.

Video of this informative meeting enclosed.....
