Successful Conclusion of Multi-Hour Standoff

Sonora, CA...Just before 5:30 pm Sunday, our office received a call of a dispute involving 57-year-old Ty Day of Tuolumne. Day was reportedly intoxicated when he showed up at the victim’s house. During an argument, Day threatened to kill both victims before retrieving a shotgun from his vehicle and pointing it at them. The victim’s were able to get shelter in their home. A short time later, Day drove away from the area.

Deputies were able to locate Day at his residence. Day refused to exit the home and made several statements threatening violence towards law enforcement. The Crisis Response Unit, consisting of Crisis Negotiators and SWAT, were activated.

After a several hour standoff with Day and many negation attempts, the SWAT Team made entry into the residence. SWAT was able to take Day into custody without further incident. Day was booked into the county jail for assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and felony obstruction.

He was angry that his entitlement check from Black Oak casino was less than previous years.

Mr. Day is a member of the Me-Wuk Tribe of the Tuolumne Rancheria

Ty Day was awarded EMT of the year, presented by VFW Post 4748 Tuolumne CA. He has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the Me-Wuk Indian Health Center. I’ve known him my entire life. He doesn’t deserve the ugliness directed at him by anonymous trolls on The Pine Tree.

I tend to disagree. If guilty of the charges against him as outlined in this story he deserves every bit of piblic humiliation directed at him here. Regardless of previous public service, no one gets to walk after threats of violence with firearms against human life. You sound like an entitled cop, not a professional law enforcement officer.
