Don Pedro Training Burn

San Andreas, CA...The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will be conducting a training burn on the north side of Don Pedro Dam at Bonds Flat Road. The burn is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 19. Approximately nine acres of grass will be burned during the exercise......

This project has two objectives: To improve the firefighting capabilities of fire suppression personnel by allowing them to practice numerous firefighting techniques; and to clear immediate vegetation from the area for the Fourth of July Fireworks event. To conduct the burn, CAL FIRE will utilize four engines, three CAL FIRE engines and one engine from Tuolumne County.

After the burning operation is complete, firefighters will remain on scene for patrol and mop-up until the fire is completely out. Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Chief Mike Noonan says the burn will proceed as scheduled as long as resources are available and temperatures, humidity and winds are favorable.
