Two Additional COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA...On Friday, June 5, 2020, Calaveras Public Health confirmed two additional cases of COVID-19 in Calaveras County. The two cases are an adult male and a female infant both from San Andreas. The exposure to COVID-19 has been determined to be linked to a case already known by Calaveras Public Health. “As we do more testing we should expect to find additional cases of COVID-19 among Calaveras residents. However, you should still take preventive steps to protect yourself and others,” said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer. “Household spread of COVID-19 is common because of the shared space and close contact with household members which is why it is important to protect yourself when caring for someone who is sick.”

Calaveras Public Health staff is investigating the two new cases to determine any possible persons who may have had close personal contact with the positive individuals. Close contacts will be assessed and monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 illness. Community transmission of disease remains a serious concern.

There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19. The best protection against COVID-19 continues to be to:
 Stay at least 6 feet away from people outside of your household
 Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
 Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
 Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissues, or your elbow (not your hands)
 Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth to protect others

A COVID-19 testing site operated by OptumServe is open at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds Monday-Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Walk-ins are welcome. Appointments can also be made by going to www.lhi.care/covidtesting. For people without internet access, call (888) 634-1123. People can be tested with or without symptoms of COVID-19 at no cost.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases for Calaveras County is now eighteen. Of those confirmed cases, thirteen cases have since recovered. To date, there have been no reported deaths to COVID-19.
