Gregory William Franz 1952 - 2019

Murphys, CA...Gregory William Franz, age 67, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019 at his home in Murphys, CA. He was born January 22, 1952 in Cumberland, Wisconsin to William and Shirley Franz, and was the oldest child and only son of six children. In 1960, the family moved to California and resided in Angels Camp. Greg graduated from Bret Harte High School in 1970, excelling in football, and track and field. He was known for his quickness and speed. Upon graduation, Greg began his lifelong vocation as a general contractor.




He was preceded in death by his father, William Franz. He will be lovingly missed by his mother Shirley Franz; children Cassie Miller (Theron) and Mark Franz (Taryn); six grandchildren Dempsey, Paige, Mia, Noah, Maverick and Kannon; sisters Kathy Ford (David), Geralyn Sullivan (Brad), Stephanie Santos (Joe), Lisa Barnea (Jeff) and Annie Tanner (Ron); 22 nieces and nephews; and dear friends Pam and Pat Bowman.

Greg loved hunting, horseback riding, the Green Bay Packers and drives over the mountain passes with his faithful dog Bodie.

A celebration of Greg's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the SPCA.
