Lots of Snow & Rain Along the West Slope of Northern Sierra Nevada This Week.
Bear Valley, CA...The National Weather Service Sacramento is forecasting a busy weather week for our area along the West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada. Today Rain and snow. Breezy. Highs 23 to 38 higher elevations...36 to 45 lower elevations. Snow accumulation of 4 to 10 inches. Snow level 3500 feet. Prevailing south winds 5 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Gusts up to 50 mph. Over ridges...prevailing southwest winds 25 to 35 mph increasing to 25 to 45 mph in the afternoon.
Tonight At lower elevations, heavy snow and heavy rain in the evening, then heavy rain showers after midnight. At higher elevations, heavy snow in the evening, then snow showers and heavy rain showers after midnight. Windy. Lows 21 to 36 higher elevations...32 to 40 lower elevations. Snow accumulation of 4 to 9 inches lower elevations...except 16 to 22 inches higher elevations. Snow level 4000 feet increasing to 5500 feet after midnight. Prevailing south winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to around 60 mph...except southwest 35 to 55 mph with gusts to around 75 mph over ridges.
Monday Cloudy. At lower elevations, rain showers in the morning, then a chance of rain showers in the afternoon. At higher elevations, rain and snow showers in the morning, then a chance of rain and snow showers in the afternoon. Breezy. Not as cool. Highs 31 to 46 higher elevations...43 to 51 lower elevations. No snow accumulation lower elevations...3 to 5 inches higher elevations. Snow level 6500 feet. Prevailing south winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 55 mph decreasing to 5 to 15 mph with gusts to around 40 mph in the afternoon. Over ridges, prevailing southwest winds 40 to 55 mph with gusts to around 75 mph decreasing to 20 to 35 mph with gusts to around 50 mph in the afternoon.
Monday Night Cloudy with a chance of rain and snow showers. Lows 25 to 40 higher elevations...37 to 44 lower elevations. Snow level 7000 feet. Prevailing south winds 5 to 15 mph.
Tuesday Cloudy with a chance of rain and snow. Highs 33 to 48 higher elevations...45 to 53 lower elevations. Snow level 7000 feet. Prevailing south winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts to around 40 mph...except south 20 to 35 mph over ridges. Over ridges, gusts up to 50 mph in the afternoon.

.Periods of moderate to heavy snow are expected to return to the
northern Sierra and portions of the southern Cascades this
afternoon and early evening and continue into early Monday
morning. Strong southerly winds will combine with the snowfall to
bring whiteout conditions at times. Mountain travel is strongly
discouraged.

ABOVE 4000 FEET...
* WHAT...Periods of snow this morning, becoming heavy this
afternoon into early Monday. Travel will be very difficult to
impossible. Damage to trees and power lines is possible.
Additional snow accumulations of 25 to 36 inches, with
localized amounts up to 55 inches, are expected.
* WHERE...Western Plumas County/Lassen Park and West Slope
Northern Sierra Nevada.
* WHEN...Until 4 AM Monday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for significant reductions in
visibility at times.

roads and limited visibilities. Travel is not recommended while
