Why Tim Muetterties is Running for Assessor?

Arnold, CA...In addition to 40 years of experience in valuing properties in Calaveras County, I also currently serve on the Calaveras County Assessment Appeals Board where we hear and decide disputes between taxpayers and the current Assessor. I will bring integrity, ethics, fairness, coalition building, dedication, hard work, and problem-solving experience to the position. The lack of co-operation with the current Assessor is counterproductive to the department’s success and impacts other departments in Calaveras County.

One of my immediate goals will be to bring a friendlier atmosphere along with the immediate removal of the backlog of transfers and the timely processing of Supplemental Tax Bills and assessments.

I have lived in Calaveras County 47 years. My accomplishments and involvement in local and state organizations are chronicled over 23+ years as a state director for the California Association of Realtors. I have been self-employed and working in the private sector for over 40 years. As a Real Estate Broker and Business Owner you go to work every day, knowing you must treat the public with respect and seek positive relationships to be successful. I will apply these same principals to the office of Assessor.

One of the reasons I am seeking the position of Assessor is because of public outcry. Following state law must always come first but setting a much friendlier environment for the department will provide Employees and the public with a positive and pleasant experience. Qualifications as a candidate to run for Assessor can be found at this link. Click Here

On my website there is a page dedicated just to the issues. There are two Grand Jury Reports and videos with the Current Assessor. One of my biggest concerns is making sure the unsecured tax rolls get completed every year without threat. This money goes to our Schools, Fire Department, Sheriff Department and Special Districts. This is vital to keeping our county operating in a healthy manner. The unsecured tax rolls were the subject of one of the Grand Jury investigations in 2011. The current Assessor threatened to repeat these actions in June 2017 budget hearings. Video is posted on the Issues page. See the issues page here.

I have received two major endorsements. SEIU LOCAL1021 (Service Employees International Union) and the Calaveras County Association of Realtors. These do not come with any special interests and no conflict of interest. The job of Assessor is mandated by State law. I encourage you to check out the endorsements on my webpage. There are many from colleagues I have worked with over the years. See endorsement page here.

I want a better environment for the Employees to work in and SEIU LOCAL 1021 gave me a vote of confidence and I will make sure that happens in the Assessor’s office. I will be a leader for the Employees. I will appreciate and value them for their hard work and dedication.

The endorsement of the Realtor organization is a vote of confidence that I can work to get rid of the backlog. The Real Estate industry can see that there is a backlog in new transfers. This has a direct effect on revenue for the county. The Buyers are reaching out to the Realtor community with their supplemental bills that do not come in a timely manner and then they must pay a backlog price. I will work with the Employees to remove the backlog and help get our county in a healthier position. The Realtor Organization knows I will do the job and support the Taxpayer's rights in a fair and responsible manner.

The Assessor position does not set any legislative laws. I have experience in legislating for better laws for the Taxpayers of California and will continue to support Taxpayer's and legislation for the people and property rights. I am a strong proponent of Proposition 13 and will continue to advocate its importance for the Taxpayers.

I ask for your vote on Tuesday June 5th, 2018 Thank you for your support!
