Rising Democratic Star Threatens ‘Safe’ Republican Seat

Granite Bay, CA...As evidence of her wide grass roots support, Roza Calderon announced today that she has received her 1,000th campaign contribution. Ms. Calderon is a Democrat running a historic campaign to represent California’s Fourth Congressional District, and unseat the five term Tea Party darling, Tom McClintock. As a single mother, scientist, and political activist, Ms. Calderon holds a unique perspective and keen understanding of the issues facing California's Fourth Congressional District. Her background makes her the logical opponent to replace the incumbent, Tom McClintock.

Ms. Calderon’s unique personal story is clear evidence of the American Dream. She and her family came to the United States as refugees during the civil war that ravaged El Salvador in the 1980s. Her family was granted a path to citizenship under the Reagan Administration. She remains an advocate for immigration reform to help millions of people realize their own dreams by supporting legislation that will lead to a path to citizenship.
She graduated from Humboldt State University as a working mother, with multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Science in Geography, an Associates of Science in Natural Sciences, an Associates of Arts in Social Sciences, and an Associates of Science in Geography.

As a scientist, Ms. Calderon has a deep understanding of the complexities of forest, water, and wildlife management within California’s Fourth District - a celebrated landscape that is home to both Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. Unlike Tom McClintock, Ms. Calderon strongly believes that the science regarding climate change is conclusive. Drought, tree mortality, and wildfires are all evidence that the planet is warming and it’s largely caused by human activity. She also believes that people can slow the effects of climate change with well informed legislation based on sound scientific facts.

Community engagement has been at the forefront of her life. “The great thing about this country, is that we do not have to sit idly by and let our government silence us. It is the job of our public officials to look out for the people they represent and champion their interests,” said Calderon.

Ms. Calderon has “walked her talk” by actively supporting the Head Start Program and serving as the Chairperson for its Policy Council. She is an passionate advocate for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs, mentoring at public schools and supporting Girls Who Code - immersive workshops that empower young women for tech careers. Ms. Calderon played an active role in the revival of Placer Women Democrats, with a new mission to elect progressive female candidates to office. She is also involved with the Indivisible Movement, a co-founder and Outreach Director of Indivisible Citizens of Congressional District 4, a non-partisan group, composed of concerned constituents seeking change.

Ms. Calderon continues to work on legislation that has a direct impact on the community she serves; education, healthcare, immigration, economic development, and environmental issues.

Roza Calderon is a woman of strong character and conviction. She is knowledgeable, determined, focused, and a passionate advocate for human rights. Roza Calderon has earned the right to represent the constituents of California’s Fourth Congressional District and she will defeat the Republican incumbent, Tom McClintock.
