Missing Pioneer Man Found Deceased In Salt Springs Reservoir

Pioneer, CA...On Sunday May 24, 2015 at approximately 1715 hours personnel from the United States Forest Service contacted the Amador County Sheriff’s Office and provided notification that a hiker had located a deceased subject in Salt Springs Reservoir approximately 3.5 miles from the dam. Amador County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and hiked to the area where they located and removed the partially submerged male subject. Due to darkness and the steep, rocky terrain deputies secured the scene overnight. Deputies were accompanied by Amador County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue personnel. On Monday May 25, 2015 the decedent was recovered by the flight crew of Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office helicopter A101....

The decedent has been identified as missing person, Daniel Robert Pedersen, 38,
of Pioneer. Pedersen was reported missing on April 26, 2015 after a canoe he
was in capsized. The Amador County Sheriff’s Dive Team, Amador County
Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Dive Team, CARDA
canines, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Air Operations Unit, and the CHP air unit all
spent several days over the past weeks searching for Pedersen. Pacific Gas and
Electric also provided a vessel and aerial support throughout the search period.
The Amador County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy to be
performed on Pedersen to determine the cause of his death.
