A Passion for Wellness: Elements and Skin Care by Tami ~ Calaveras Visitor's Bureau Feature

Murphys, CA...When Tami Taurian and Maura Grant partnered their businesses, they were pursuing a vision to provide a new level of wellness service in Calaveras County. Tami and Maura are two of the CVB’s newest members, and we wanted to get some insight into their Murphys day spa. Maura is a holistic massage therapist and Reiki practitioner who owns Elements, and Skin Care by Tami is within the Elements space. Tami sat down with us recently to give us the details....

Tami drew on her experience running a salon in the Bay Area 20 years ago when helping create the upscale spa experience at Elements in Murphys. “We wanted the focus to be much more about wellness, it’s not just hair and nails,” she says. Indeed, Maura and Tami cater heavily to both male and female clientele, with a wide range of services including massage and detoxification, active men’s deep cleaning skin treatments, and the popular infrared sauna.

Far Infrared Sauna, as they’re known, offer special healing benefits as varied as pain relief, weight loss, skin purification and wound healing. Because they emit infrared light that is absorbed by the skin, rather than heating the air as traditional saunas do, the far infrared option is great for people who have trouble tolerating the heat.

There are other unique touches that set them apart, such as the community wellness and meditation room, with its sanctuary-like atmosphere and bamboo floors, where Maura leads weekly group meditations and a local acupuncturist provides community acupuncture on a weekly basis as well.

After several years working with her husband, who owns Cabinets n More, Tami knew it was time to follow her passion back into wellness. She says when she and Maura met, there was a definite connection and they discovered they worked well together. With their joint venture now established, Tami says they are focusing some of their energy on getting the word out, hoping visitors to Calaveras will put a wellness treatment on their itinerary.

Some of Tami’s marketing efforts include providing educational information on skin care and healthy living, but also recipes, which reflect her passions and overlap nicely with a business that offers wellness services. She sends these out through an email newsletter along with current specials, which you can sign up for through her website. Maura’s site features testimonials from her geographically diverse clientele singing her praises, and there’s an Events page which lists all of the upcoming community offerings and gives info on how to reserve the relaxing space for your own event. Community events are an excellent way for people to sample the experience and be inspired to book further treatments or refer friends.

With their central Murphys location, they seem well situated to provide a much needed “time out” for busy locals and tourists alike. They encourage booking couples massages or bringing a friend to experience their “Spaliday” package, a three hour retreat with massage, sauna and facial, where you’ll both get to relax with a light snack and a cool glass of Champagne. Sounds like something we should sign up for!
