Sonora Foundation $8,000 Grant Extends Mind Matters Services
Murphys, Ca...An $8 thousand grant from the Sonora Area Foundation will make it possible for Mind Matters, the Murphys based clinic that treats autism and related disorders, to extend its programs in Tuolumne County. “It is our goal to provide our multi-faceted services in Tuolumne, Amador and Calaveras counties,” states Dr. Ryan Thompson, the clinic’s founder and CEO/Medical Director. “Through the years, the generous contributions from the Sonora Area Foundation have helped us pursue that goal.” Since 2010, the foundation has made grants totaling $40 thousand to Mind Matters. This money has been used to provide such programs as Fast ForWord, a computer based reading and language intervention program, to young people in Tuolumne County. This program has proved to improve reading achievements in area students...
“We must contract with these program developers to be able to provide them to our clients,” says Thompson. “We find that many families are not able to fully pay to have their children enrolled. Grants such as this help ease the financial burden for these families. We, and they, are very appreciative of the foundation’s help.”
The Mind Matters non-profit clinic exists to help individuals and families cope with the consequences of autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD/ADD), and learning disabilities. The clinic does this through treatment, counseling, and education. It also works to promote a better public understanding of these debilitating health issues.
The clinic is located at 150 Big Trees Rd. adjacent to the Murphys Post Office.
Contributions to Mind Matters are tax deductible to the extent of the law. For further information, contact Mind Matters at 728-2184 or mindmattersclinic.org.
