Dave Gano Featured Artist for January At Hovey. Artist's Reception January 5th
Murphys, Dec. 21, 2013 – The impeccable watercolor paintings of Dave Gano depicting the many wonders of the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway will be showcased the month of January at Hovey Winery Tasting Room, 350 A Main St., Murphys. An artist’s reception in his honor will be held Sunday, Jan. 5 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. with complimentary appetizers and wine available by the glass for $5...
Gano, who uses the French spelling of his family name, Gayneaux, on his watercolors, is a native of Long Beach. As a graduate in history from Cal-State Long Beach, he went on to earn an M.A. from Redlands University in Education and an M.A. in History from U.O.P. He taught elementary school, K-8, for 32 years. During this time he developed his drawing and painting around his love of history and nature.
His paintings reflect his experiences as an avid outdoorsman – hiking, biking, kayaking and cross country skiing, alongside his local historical studies. He and his wife, JoEllen, have lived and taught in Arnold and Murphys since l978, where his renderings of historic local buildings have been widely acclaimed.
“I’ve been admiring Dave’s watercolors and the fine person that he is since he was my son’s kindergarten teacher,” relayed Jan Hovey, co-owner with husband, Chuck. “His love of Ebbetts Pass is one that he calls his ‘obsession,’ and maybe that’s why his creative renditions of our area are beyond compare. This is a rare opportunity to view Dave’s amazing work, as he doesn’t normally exhibit in any gallery.”
Hovey Tasting Room is open daily from noon to 5:30 p.m. For more information, call 728-9999 or e-mail jan@hoveywine.com.
