Winners of Angels Camp's Christmas Decorating Contest Announced

Angels Camp, CA...Ten businesses throughout Angels Camp are winners in the 2013 Christmas Decorating Contest sponsored by the Angels Camp Business Association. Being recognized for exterior decoration are: In first place, Claussen’s Corner at 1208 S. Main Street; in second place, Angels Camp City Hall; and in third, the Hospice Thrift shop at 570 N. Main...

There are two winners for interior decoration. First place goes to CAMPS Restaurant in the Greenhorn Creek Resort with its beautifully decorated 18-foot high live Christmas tree, and second place goes to Foothill Village on Foothill Village Drive.

Winners for best window decorations are Firefall Jewelers at 1259 S. Main Street in first place, TCL Chocolates at 1257 S Main in second, and Prestidge Gallery at 1243 S Main – all in the historic downtown area.

Honorable mentions are awarded to Calaveras Coin & Pawn at 1283 S Main and Now & Then Treasures at 1177 S Main.

Contest chairman Jacque Hash congratulated the winners: “The judges are pleased with the quality of the decorations as well as with the number of businesses that decorated this year. Judges looked for originality, creativity, visibility and the Christmas theme.

“We added the third category of ‘interior decoration’ this year and the judges made an effort to visit businesses, banks, lodging and restaurants, even those off Main Street, during their operating hours. Some of the most exciting decorations are inside.

“I also want to thank our judges Charlotte Turnbow, Jackie Menary and Ellen Baldwin,” added Hash. “They made numerous trips throughout town and into businesses during the days and evenings over a 10-day period to be sure they had viewed as many businesses as possible.”

The Christmas Decorating Contest is one of a number of Christmas activities sponsored by the Angels Camp Business Association each year. The 23rd annual Christmas parade was held on November 30th along with an Open House in the historic downtown. The Christmas Gala, held December 2nd , is ACBA’s main source of operating funds. The Association and its volunteers also produced and hung over 250 pine boughs throughout the town. ACBA is also responsible for the Christmas decorations across and along Main Street in the downtown area as well as the lighted trees that hang on light poles along Main Street.
