Celebrated Jumping Frogs On Tour
Frogtown, USA...The Celebrated Jumping Frogs are currently on tour, hopping around Calaveras County and beyond, building excitement for their signature event at Frogtown May 16-19. Their tour includes local schools, County Government Center and a jaunt to the State Capitol in Sacramento to promote the upcoming Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee...
The State Capitol Jump on April 30 is hosted by State Senator Tom Berryhill who represents Calaveras County. It begins at 11 a. m. on the East Lawn of the Capitol. 2012 Frog Jump Champ Laura Kitchell of Angels Camp will be on hand to cheer on state lawmakers, staff members and media who compete every year in this Frog Jump preview event.
County officials will welcome the frogs on May 7 for another preview event – the annual Government Center Frog Jump. The event is held at noon with various county departments competing for the title.
Both the State Capitol and Government Center events are sanctioned jumps, with the winners automatically advancing to the Grand Finals on May 19.
The Frog Wranglers, a volunteer group dedicated to the history and community pride reflected in the Jumping Frog Jubilee, arranges the frogs' personal appearance tour every year. The history of the event based on the story by Mark Twain figures prominently in their visits to local schools.
School frog appearances began at West Point Elementary on April 11 and will continue on April 26 at San Andreas Elementary and at Mokelumne Hill Elementary on April 29. Also – May 1 at Copperopolis Elementary; May 2 at Mark Twain Elementary; May 7 at Rail Road Flat Elementary and May 9 at Jenny Lind Elementary.
